"Warning: Super long review... I was looking for a place in the city to do a Russian manicure and gel extensions (blame Tik Tok). They are typically very pricey $180 and up) so when I searched Yelp and found this place that offered what I wanted for a more reasonable price ( still kinda high, but I wanted the experience so...) I booked it - oddly they don't have a website, but I was able to book them through a booking site called Snailz. Snailz books the appt and require that you give them your payment info but you don't get charged until your appt starts. They bill you for the service and the 20% tip and stress to you that you don't have to pay anything during or after your appointment. If you're not comfortable with this procedure, you can call 800 Miss Nails directly and schedule a service with them. The Service ...I was greeted cheerily upon entry even though I arrived 30 mins early. Luckily I was in the chair immediately and KiKi was assigned to do my nails. She does not speak English well, but we worked it out - she is very kind and very good with nails! I've watched many videos re Russian manicures and thought she'd be working on my fingers doing the actual manicure for at least an hour..nope! It took her 20 mins to file and remove excess skin and cuticle. I've never had a Russian manicure before and wanted to protest a little, but in her defense my nails were super short and she did an awesome clean up job on them! My nail beds looked longer and my cuticles looked so healthy! So she's finished with the manicure part and now it's time for the gel extensions...I thought she was going to use nail forms but ended up using tips. I tried to protest, but the language barrier...I just decided to go with it, it wasnt a big deal. Listen, the way KiKi was sizing the tips and checking my fingers to make sure they were on straight really impressed me. She's a bit of a perfectionist, and I appreciated her attention to detail, especially with filing and shaping my almond nails. When applying the gel she was checking the apex of each nail and made sure everything looked good before and after curing. She offered me water mid way thru which was nice too. I think I'm spoiled now, I only want KiKi to do my nails from now on. Other things to mention...The salon is bright and clean, they have a great selection of nail colors and the staff was courteous. It's a step above the local nail salons in my neighborhood and they use top quality products like CND, OPI, etc . A gentlemen came in for a 20 min chair massage and the way the tech was working his shoulders had me wishing I was in the chair! But guess what...at the end of my appointment while my top coat dried KiKi blessed my shoulders and neck with a mini massage and it was just what I needed. I ended up giving her an additional $15 for making my experience so great and my nails too! Highly recommend. Although I don't think I got a full fledged Russian manicure and I didn't get the extensions I wanted I'm very happy. My nails have never looked better! Definitely going back for a manicure."
"I picked this place because they specifically offer hard gel on the menu. The first time I went a few months ago, it was a good experience. I just went today with my friend and we both had bad experiences and were far overcharged for two gel manicures ($90 and $103). Mine was done by Amy who was clearly not sure how to do a hard gel manicure. She used the drill on my skin and made me bleed, which I expressed but it continued to happen. She was not able to shape my nails evenly, they all look sloppy and different which she didn’t fix when I showed her. She asked others questions about my nails during the process and did each nail one by one which took forever and was painful. I asked her if there was a problem and if we should stop. She didn’t paint the nails smoothly and used the drill on each nail at least 5 times, which made my nails burn worse than usual in the UV light. She made the other employee do my design, which is the only part that looks nice. They shouldn’t agree to do things they aren’t sure how to do. This was a slow, painful and expensive process like going to the dentist and now my nails look sloppy like I did them myself. I will not be back, even though I think they should fix them, I think my nails are now too thin and damaged to go through this again for a couple of weeks. Maybe go, but be careful about which person you have work on your nails."
"I got a UV manicure with chrome powder. The manicure overall turned out alright but there was some miscommunication about what I wanted. My friend and I originally asked for hard gel manicures, a separate item on their list of services, not UV gel. However, every time we said hard gel they said UV gel. Eventually we both just got UV gel as we didn’t want to go back and forth with them about it. Turns out UV gel is $95 as compared to hard gel which is $65. Was overall frustrating we could not get hard gel given it is listed as a service they provide."
"Before I came here today I had pretty long acrylic extensions and they looked nice enough, but I was having trouble typing. This was my first visit to 800 Miss Nail and I think I found my happy place for nails. The technicians wear name tags, and Kiki did my nails and pedicure and she was amazing. I left feeling like a new person. The manicure she did was absolutely flawless. I’m so in awe of the technique and artistry of this, and how much work and care went into this manicure. Kiki was very patient and gentle. I am somewhat afraid of the nail dremmel but she used all the tools with such care I will not have anxiety about going in again. Not sure what the manicure was called- I don’t want to misinform, but it was a gel manicure and powder was involved, which was like a dip. So I think that’s what they call a powder dip but not sure. Anyway, gorgeous shaping- It was fascinating to watch the sculpting of each nail to see the progress. They also do pedicure spa treatments there, and I was feeling like that would really help me feel better after a difficult week. It truly was amazing. I got the full white tea treatment because I had terrible callouses. My feet are so soft now. They give you a 25 minute lower leg and foot massage with that one, and I highly recommend this to anyone else who spends a lot of time on their feet. The atmosphere is very kind and easy going, the salon is minimalist but pretty-it’s super sparkling clean with marble walls and crystal looking foot baths that are so pretty to look at. This was a transformative experience and I feel so much better and I love looking at my new nail color and love the shape of them."
