About the North Channel West Canoe Launch
North Channel West Canoe Launch is a park located in New York, United States. This institution allows hand-launched privately-owned small boats such as canoes, kayaks, and rowboats to be launched from various sites within the park. Some of these launch sites include Floyd Bennett Field's seaplane ramp, kayak launch sites at North Channel Bridge, Riis Landing, and Canarsie Pier, as well as Beach Area C and Horseshoe Cove in Sandy Hook. For larger boats, there are two marinas within Gateway National Recreation Area and a boat ramp in Great Kills Park. Permits are required to park in the Great Kills Park boat ramp lot. Visitors can find more information about the Great Kills Boat Ramp on the Great Kills page. Additionally, there is a Jamaica Bay Kayak Trail Map available for those interested in exploring the waterways. It is important to be aware of the restrictions for boating at Gateway National Recreation Area.

Reviews of North Channel West Canoe Launch
"I kayaked here on a weekday morning, and I was surprised that there was actually a latch on the porta-john (but no toilet paper, as usual). While I was peeing at 12 pm, a woman, who couldn't speak English, and doesn't understand that "red means stop and green means go" ripped the door open, even though I had it latched. Be warned, Hindus litter this area with coconuts, flowers, limes & other fruit, cloth & saris, statues, coins, bamboo sticks, and even cremation ashes! Unlike the Ganges, the enclosed Jamaica Bay does not sweep the refuse away. "Saris...strangle the sea grass, flowers...choke the birds, and fruits disrupt the food chain." If you go there in the evening when the religious practices are happening, you may get yelled at, like I was, for just being there, and enjoying my national park."
"Actually beautiful area to walk and enjoy the sunsets and or sunrise. Great place to walk or just sit and watch the water very calming."
"Always wish this place was much quieter and cleaner but with a young crowd not too bad a place to chill late afternoon. I prefer hanging in the East side late at night watching the planes take off and land at JFk. Very soothing at that time"
