Reviews of Gene Frankel Theatre
"Absolute Quality!! What an experience. Beautiful original NY theater in a remarkable building with history on the upper floors. Have seen the current play called 9/10. Very well done and impressive work. The play was about the night before 9/11 with their unique stories unfolding not knowing what would happen the next day. The performance space is truly immersive with actors very close right in front of the audience. It's been a pleasure to visit. Highly recommended."
"Tony Greco pushes you to the furthest corners to unlock the great music that hides there. It's been amazing to see actors change right in front of you... if only the guy changed his underwear because the room smells like a day-old braciole. Five stars."
"I was here and saw an English adaptation of a play by Calderon dela Barca (Life Is A Dream), the whole place is old and with plenty of interesting details and character particularly by the entrance. It was my first time here and I can only wish this place will survive very well amidst the onslaught of the ever strong presence of the buildings belonging to the NYU campus. It will give the neighborhood more character, rather than the typical boring predictable pattern you see in the area."
"I've been to a couple of shows here in the past month and I have to say they were unique experiences. The theater conserves an old-style New York atmosphere and welcomes everybody into their intimate space as one of their own. The shows were flowing with fresh creative energy from well-known Downtown theater actors and were discussing issues and obstacles that people face in the world nowadays through an authentic filter. Your experience here is guaranteed to be a pleasant and artistically enriching one."
"We recently had our wedding there and it was astounding. The photos are in and proved to us it was such a magical place to be in. A black box theater true to form, and supportive of many talented and local artists, so we're proud to add our wedding to its roster. They were very hospitable and encouraging and it was a blast working with this wild artsy crew. The arts is still alive in Manhattan! It's great to see this kind of place still exist in NoHo! I hope it continues to thrive with many more brilliant performances to come. Thank you, Gene Frankel! It was an honor."
