Reviews of Black River Trail Trailhead
"Great trail! Wish people with dogs would pick up after their pets!"
"Went in two miles and back. Beautiful walking trail along the river."
"Great trail for walking, running, bike riding and dog walking. Dogs are required to be on a leash and it is rare to see one off it's leash. Trail is paved and we'll maintained and clean. Trail length is 9 miles and takes almost 3 hours to walk the whole trail. In the city, the trail starts at Waterworks Park on Huntington Street with plenty of parking. It makes it's way along the river, past the city water filtration plant and under the Route 3 bridge. From there it makes it way to Walker Ave. There are three parking spots and one van accessible handicap spot on Walker Ave. Walker Ave is also a trail head. Two more trail heads with one off of Ridge Road and the other off Route 3 near the Village of Black River. In some spots it offers good views of the river and kayak access. Depending on the rivers flow, you can get pretty close to the river. Use caution as the river can rise unexpectedly, sirens will sound to alert you. I don't have pictures of the trail, plan to take some in the future. I can only offer a video of the river off of the trail. Highly recommend. Edit: Had to upload video separately as I could not upload attached to this review."
"This is a favorite local trail. It's a paved path with lovely views of the river. My kids love to experience the changing wildflowers and birds all year long. The only problem is dog owners who don't clean up after their pets. So just be careful about stepping into the shoulder."
"This place is really cool and can serve as a nice place to bring the kids and dogs if you have them. Make a family day out of it if you will. Just know that if you have kids you need to make sure they’re being safe and staying away from the rushing water. There are rapids present and found frequently throughout the actual riverside walking area along the stone, so be mindful of this with your youngsters. The scenery is beautiful and I’m sure it is quite amazing during the fall and obviously summer time. Lots of small waterfall features, and I mean pretty small, yet still pretty to watch. There is a unique dam structure that is cool to watch with bigger waterfalls that approach the river. I’m not sure what the rules are with actually swimming, but I would not recommend it due to the rapids and potential quality of water. I’ve walked miles along this trail and haven’t seen bathrooms so just take that into consideration before your walk/hike… take care of your business before hand. Enjoy your experience and some photos I took."
