Miller Bell Tower
About the Business
The Miller Bell Tower, located at 1 Miller Park in Chautauqua, New York, is a historic tourist attraction known for its iconic Westminster Chimes that play every 15 minutes from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. The tower also features a peal of five bells that signal upcoming Amphitheater lectures and programs. Visitors are welcome during performance times, where they can enjoy tunes played by the chimemaster, often featuring music from current concert, choir, or opera performances. The history of bells at Chautauqua dates back to the summer of 1874, with the Meneely & Kimberly Company providing the first bell for the Chautauqua Assembly. Over the years, the institution has seen the addition of various bells, including a 10-bell chime donated by early CLSC classes in 1885. The present Miller Bell Tower was constructed in 1911 as a memorial to Lewis Miller, featuring an open arcade belfry for the bells and clock dials with electric lights. Today, the bells are played from a keyboard at the base of the tower, continuing the tradition of signaling activities at Chautauqua.

"This is a place I grew up. Haven't visited in over 20 years. Miller Bell Tower does have a tour sometimes and is worth it if you have the chance. The bell tower has a keyboard similar to a piano which plays the bells. This is where I learned what a carillon actually is."
"A beautiful Bell-Clock that chimes every 15 minutes. Love the way it looks when it's lit at night when you're on the lake"
"Beautiful hallmark of Chautauqua Institution!"
"Iconic part of the Chitauqua Institute. Don't miss it."
"The bell rings like every 15 min. The food truck in front has decent food. It can be better I think."
