Bay Drive-In Theatre

"A little piece of cinema heaven in a high tech age. We decided to give this place a try as our local and much loved drive in theatre closed a number of years ago. We were not expecting as much as we got. Set near the beautiful town of Alexandria Bay this theatre is the real deal. We drove up to the gate and received our tickets to be treated to some amazing old architecture. Everything on the site is original. Even the old style projectors are still openly visible. Well organized and well-lit spaces open to the giant (and I mean GIANT) screens in both cinemas 1 and 2. The old concession booths although still there, do not actually open anymore as age has finally caught up with them. Even the rest rooms are set in a ‘movie’ style with major Hollywood icons adorning the doors. But the best was yet to come. The concession building looks quite modern and honestly a bit disappointing from the outside. But almost like a magic trick, as you enter you are overloaded by the sheer transformation of time and space back to the original fittings of a 50’s style drive in. Don’t take my word for it, check the pictures! A vast menu of drinks and snacks are available for purchase and the range and type of candy is just a delight to see. From Milk duds to Golden Nuggets they are all here. If you don’t feel you want to eat in your car for any reason you can sit in the gorgeous surroundings of the 50’s diner in which it is set. The sound from the movie that can be clearly seen through the giant bay windows and is pumped in through speakers so you never have to miss a moment. And now the shocking part. The price. In an age where everyone is gouging it is so refreshing to see prices of such extreme value. Our ticket (which includes two movies plus tax) were $5 dollars each!!! They also provide discounts for Military (serving) and seniors. Kids are a mere $3 and infants are free. A ¼ pound hamburger was $3.89, a large popcorn was $4.99, and the list goes on and on. It is clear that the people who run this establishment love movie memorabilia and everything about the drive in culture. They not only have preserved it, they have positively embraced it at every turn. Let there be no misunderstanding. This is truly a gem that took all my expectations and left them hanging to be replaced by what I can only describe as ‘magical’. If it were possible to give more than five stars I would not hesitate. Even if you are not a big movie fan I would still recommend the experience of this amazing place. As long as this theatre is open no big brand ‘Multiplex’ will ever have my money again. A great night out for the entire family in a beautiful old fashioned drive in at an old fashioned price."
