Reviews of Neurology Associates of Rochester
"Dr. Gajaweera is the worst doctor I have ever met and her staff is no better. The first time I met her was years ago for a nerve conduction. She acted kind, so I was happy to meet with her again. During my next appointment, her attitude completely changed when I told her I was dealing with some major medical issues and my doctors and I were trying to figure out underlying causes. Similar to another review on here, I brought a symptom tracking list. She disregarded it after briefly flipping through it. She made snarky comments, told me she didn't know why I was referred, and when I explained the situation she seemed more agitated. She acted like I was lying because she didn't see anything in her notes, and in a condescending tone she kept asking me to repeat my symptoms. After explaining to her repeatedly how my symptoms were affecting my quality of life, she told me that I only have 'mild inflammation'. Later I had a follow up from an MRI, which we talked about briefly. She noticed that I had received second opinions for my ongoing health issues (unrelated to MRI and Neurology in general) and for some reason it bothered her despite it not affecting my care with her. She made snarky comments, and when I explained the situation and how my PCP and specialists I've seen recommended it, she once again acted like I was lying and told me she didn't see anything in her notes and wanted to know who told me to get second opinions. She then said something along the lines of (I can't remember what she said exactly) that I was doctor grabbing because I was in pain and searching for an answer. I found that incredibly disrespectful as my doctors and I are determined to figure out what's wrong, and it is absolutely not her place to criticize or stick her nose into my health issues if she doesn't want to help. I tried to redirect the conversation back to the MRI scan as I just wanted to get what I needed and leave. She asked me who she should send the information, and I gave her my new PCP's info. She asked why I was abruptly changing doctors. But when I told her that my former PCP was overwhelmed and yelled at me, she defended my former PCP and ranted about how they were overworked. While I understand that stress builds up and most doctors are beyond overworked, it is never ok to lash out at someone, especially in a professional setting. Again I don't know why Dr. Gajaweera felt so strongly about these situations that had no impact on her, but it felt like that's the only thing she cared about during our follow up. Afterwards, one of the receptionists started drama. Later I called and asked if it was possible to speak to a nurse practitioner after my next MRI, but I was told it had to be run by Dr. Gajaweera first. I told them I was uncomfortable getting my results from her, and I didn't know how she would react since she was against second opinions. I explained the situation, then asked if seeing another clinic to read my results was an option because I did not want to be berated again. The receptionist said it was ok, and I asked them not to send anything yet about the nurse practitioner until I gave called back and discussed things with my new PCP first. He agreed and said he'd wait for my call. However, when I called back, another receptionist answered and said the message was already sent, and that I was planning on seeing another clinic so there was no point. I was confused and asked her to read the message. Apparently, once the first receptionist got off the phone, he sent a message to Dr. Gajaweera and told her that I said she was "being nasty", "she should keep her nose out of my business", and that "she shouldn't be a doctor"-- he wrote everything out of context without any explanation. He also left out that I wanted to see a nurse, which defeated the purpose of calling in the first place. Long story short, I'm extremely happy that I will never visit her or that office again. Someone who's unwilling to help and constantly putting down their patients should not be a doctor."
"I had an appointment scheduled for the last three months. Unfortunately I had a meeting this morning that the state told me was mandatory told me the appointment was at 9 AM. My doctors appointment was at 10 AM so I figured I had enough time in between. They lied about the hearing being at 9 AM and said I had to be available from 9 AM to 1 PM so it made me miss my doctors appointment. I am filing some thing with my attorney because this is wrong for a doctor to decline somebody’s health especially when they’re having a lot of issues so hopefully something will be done. It seems doctors don’t care about their patients anymore and I haven’t even ever stepped foot into this practice and that just shows you what kind of people we have to put our life and their hands and it’s just sad the way the world is going."
"Dr. Evans is great. Very knowledgeable and caring. Takes the time to listen and explain. One member of the office staff needs to work on his customer service and attitude. I called for an appointment to see a different doctor in the practice because my primary wanted me to see her. I could not get an appt to see her until the end of May (2 1/2 months out). Then when he took my information, he said I had to see the doctor that I started there with -- office policy was the reason. I asked why I couldn't choose which doctor I wanted to see -- office policy was the reason. Okay -- so I asked when I could get in to see him. Mid-June -- 3 months out. Not acceptable as I'd be on vacation and not coming back until August. The office guy wanted me to wait until AUGUST for an appointment. When I questioned this, he magically had an appointment open up three days before the other one in June. I was not waiting for 3 months, so I asked to speak to the office manger. After about 10 minutes he came back on the phone he miraculously had an appointment two days away. This guy was completely inflexible. This made me feel like they were playing games with me. Give me the appointment that is the soonest...when people are having neurological issues, a three month wait is too long, especially if one is a current patient."
"Absolutely horrendous secretary of office manager or whoever it was I spoke to today trying to schedule an appointment for my MS flare up. So much attitude and she seemed to take a pleasure in saying they don’t have any openings till summer. I’ll make sure to follow up about this and make sure this doesn’t got unresolved."
"I have bounced around to different neurologists in ROC and so far this place is the most compassionate about my chronic migraines. The office staff is kind and helpful. I have seen both Dr. Gajaweera and Dr. Caraway, both are caring and actually listen. They have done a good job of trying to find me the right preventative medications. They do not hesitate to refer me to other specialists to maximize my opportunity of finding a solution after many years of chronic pain. It means a lot when you find a doctor that shows empathy for what you go through. I feel the majority of previous doctors I've seen are very dismissive and rushed. I don't feel that way here, although some of my visits have been a little shorter than I'd like so that's why they aren't receiving the full 5 stars. Thank you and your staff for your care!"
