"This review pertains specifically to the rooms above the Lily Cafe that are rented by the Maplewood - and I suspect they only use them if the hotel itself is full. If they want to give you a room there, go ANYWHERE else. Rooms are small, rustic and share a bathroom - which I'm fine with. My complaint is specifically about the lack of hot water. The water temperature in the shower, if you are lucky, is barely tepid - and if you're unlucky, it's just cold water only. I found out that this is because all of the rooms SHARE a hot water heater with the restaurant below. So even if you're first in the shower in the morning, any hot water has already been used by the commercial establishment directly below. At least one of the guests there checked out and booked a room in Jamestown as soon as she discovered this, but we were stuck there for three days because we needed to stay on the grounds and there were no accommodations available anywhere else. During our three-day stay, our rooms (including the shared bathroom) were never cleaned, and we never received fresh towels - ironic, considering that tip envelopes with little happy faces drawn on them had been left prominently displayed on the dresser for us to see. If you're booking through Maplewood, don't let them put you here."
"The address for the Maplewood is 1 Cleveland Avenue. Google has the address of a private residence posted for this hotel. We come here every year and meet wonderful people. The place for us is about the people and the history. There is nothing like sitting on the porch in an Adirondack chair watching the sun go down and chatting with newfound friends."
"Before booking, we were told there was no AC but they would provide us with “as many fans as needed” since we would be on the 3rd floor. When we arrived, the staff was anything but friendly. The women working the desk were rude, impatient, snippy and also informed us we would not be getting any extra fans because they could not accommodate us. I have never been treated or spoke to in this manner while patroning a business before, it genuinely made me rethink my entire stay in this facility and I almost asked for a refund to leave. This rickety old building hasn’t been cleaned or remodeled since it was built in the 1800s, so the price for what you are getting is NOT it. The doors are hard to close and even harder to open from the inside. We were provided with ONE box fan, in which the chord for the only outlet in the room wasn’t even long enough to reach the window. There is also broken picture frames with missing chunks of glass hanging in the room. just don’t stay here, find a cottage they’re much nicer and much more comfortable."
"Do not book at this hotel if you have your heart set on staying inside the Lily Dale gates. They are notorious for "over-booking" and sending guests to their sister "hotel" which is a dilapidated, partially boarded-up building outside the Lily Dale area. It appears that they will not accommodate guests anywhere else on the grounds or outside the grounds. I strongly suggest you reserve a space at one of the lovely cottages on the property if you genuinely wish to enjoy the benefits of being in Lily Dale. There is just as much historic value."
"The staff were really nice and if they didn't know the answer to the questions that my friend or I had, they were able to quickly find one. It was a nice coming back to the room later on to find that my room was nice and clean and bed freshly made (much better job than most brand hotels). Although the room was a little on the small side, this was also how the hotel was originally built in the 1800's. There's no need for a TV, as you'll be very busy while you're at Lily Dale. Since this hotel dates back to the 1800's, just looking at the history that's around you in your room, the several hallways throughout the hotel and the many other common areas is a wonderful experience of it's own. When you get lost in the details, it feels as though you're taking a journey back in time. The outside porch, which feels like a patio, was also a great place to sit back and relax in a rocking chair to unwind & decompress from an otherwise very busy day at Lily Dale and watching the Sunset over Cassadaga Lake. Overall, I had a really great experience at this hotel and look forward to coming back next year with a few more friends."
