Reviews of Nassau Anesthesia Associates PC
"Beware of billing practices with Nassau Anesthesia. They attempted to direct bill us half of what they charged insurance and was paid out by insurance (over 12k). Called their billing multiple times to inquire and was told every time it was legitimate that we owed what insurance didn't pay. They probably thought we were suckers. Called insurance who confirmed that we were never to be billed directly by Nassau, ever. Received a copy of the reprimand letter to naap where it outright reminded them of their terms to be be included in the insurance program -- which included never billing the patient directly and they had negotiated rates. What does that mean? It means Nassau Anesthesia is run by liars and con artist owners."
"Worst experience I have everything had with a hospital visit. I'm getting billed $4700 for anesthesia for a minor surgery. I have insurance and they were in network but my insurance won't pay. I was never informed of this before my surgery or I wouldn't have had it done. I truly feel they jacked the price up figuring insurance was going to negotiate the price. Now I have a $4700 bill and I refuse to pay a dollar because I feel I'm getting ripped off. Anybody dealing with them watch out they are a predatory company."
"They shouldn’t even be getting a star worst billing department I’ve ever had to deal."
"Paid my bill with them after a devastating loss of my son and 2 months later, they have a collections company contacting me over a debt that I’VE ALREADY PAID! Your Billing Department needs to get it together! It’s heartbreaking enough being reminded of my loss!"
"Obviously if this is the practice at the hospital you are at you won't be able to avoid them completely. But I certainly recommend trying. I gave birth in December at Winthrop University Hospital and the whole experience was truly awful (even beyond just normal labor and delivery awful; both physically and mentally traumatizing). Nassau Anesthesia Associates played a not-insignificant role in this. The epidural that their anesthesiologist performed was ultimately useless and also completely stalled my labor thanks to it's shoddy application. And that is not the worst part. Whether intended or not, my chart and medical records contain no mention of my frequent complaints about the epidural, or my increasingly panicked requests for the epidural to be removed. I doubt the nurses, technicians, doctors, and anesthesiologist all forgot to log any of my many complaints and concerns. I have little doubt the standard practice there is to falsify medical records via omission when mistakes are made. Conveniently, Nassau Anesthesia Associates "investigates" complaints by having the anesthesiologist look over his/her notes and your chart. Literally, the person who screwed up is in charge of determining whether or not they screwed up. Great quality control. For those who want more details: I had an epidural w/ my first son and it was a wonderful experience (different anesthesiologist and hospital), so I was only too happy to get one this time. The anesthesiologist came in, put in the epidural, and left. And I never saw him again. I lost ALL feeling on my left side (waste down), and could not even wiggle my toes or lift my leg. I asked everyone who came in the room (nurses mostly) about this unexpected result of the epidural and most of them ignored me and said it was normal (fyi, it's not). I asked for the epidural to be dialed back or taken out and was told I would have to talk to the anesthesiologist. I asked several times for him to come in. He never came back. Meanwhile, my labor completely stalled from not being able to move my body and the l&d doctor tried to force me to take pitocin. I told her I'd rather have the epidural removed first because I felt it was responsible and she said she couldn't authorize that; the anesthesiologist would have to. I asked for him to come in and turn off the epidural. He never came. I asked another 4 times over the course of the next hour for him to come in. I was told after the third time that he was in a c-section and could not. I get that, emergency c-section is more important. But I kept asking and they kept telling me he was unavailable. Eventually, the drug bag emptied and a person came in to refill it (not the anesthesiologist). I told him not to. Empty, the epidural eventually it started wearing off and I was able to move my legs enough to get the labor progressing, though my left leg still could not move on its own. I had the baby without any of the numbing benefits of the epidural; it did nothing but paralyze me and cause serious complications in my labor -all before the real pain started. Now, sometimes epidurals don't work. I understand that. The truly horrifying and unethical part is that the anesthesiologist falsified my medical records to say that he did come in and check on me and that I made no complaints about the epidural at any time during my labor, delivery, or recovery (believe me, I complained loudly and repeatedly during each of these phases). I might question my own memory (it was a very emotional time), but there were others in the room with me that were not in labor who recall my repeated (and loud) concern and near-constant requests for the epidural to be removed. Despite my near constant complaints, he never returned to so much as check the dosage levels, let alone check on how I was doing. It took a week for full feeling to come back to my left side and I complained about the lingering numbness to the follow-up anesthesiologist the next day in the recovery ward, also with witnesses present and also somehow not recorded in my medical records."
