Cassena Care at Norwalk

"It is the holiday week. My brother had broken his shoulder and 3 ribs. He has difficulty eating with one hand, the other arm in the sling. He was given purer food which he did not eat. I had to feed him food until the regular med staff can change his diet plan again. The food staff was very concerned that he was not eating . The phones that were suppose to be upgraded are still not working even the front door phone to call for staff is not working."

"Both Cassena Care at Norwalk and Cassena Care at Stamford, have achieved 4-star status, with hard work and dedication. Many improvements have been implemented by CT management and short term and long term patients and residents are treated with respect and dignity. When one rates them with one star, it's toward out of state, not the CT facilities. There is also a new state of the art Dialysis Center, located at the Norwalk campus."

"My loved one was here for several months for long term care. The 1st floor was the thing of nightmares: my father was sometimes unchanged, unwashed, dirty diaper, *consistently* there was urine on the floor and/or feces smeared on the wall. My family and I visited every single day from Bridgeport and would purchase cleaning products regularly to clean the room ourselves for hygiene and dignity sake. We would sponge bathe and change him ourselves, otherwise it might not be done for DAYS. I’d speak to any staff I could about this urgent concern. The patients look so lost, disheveled and uncared for. He can’t have lactose, but would sometimes be served cheese sandwiches or pizza; thank heavens I’d be there during dinner. What if it was a life threatening food allergy? I’ve found mold or ants in the pitcher from where his water is served. If I called, sometimes my call was answered when transferred, sometimes it would be rudely hang up before my concern was addressed. Unacceptable. Patients wander in and out of each other’s rooms; it’s not their fault because they’re sick, but they sometimes take others’ things - be cautious of personal items. It was the worst months I’ve ever experienced in my life seeing my loved one there. I never felt safe leaving my beloved family member there. There was a transfer to the 4th floor which is a different world: much cleaner, calmer and the staff is very warm and more attentive. It was a very positive experience there. The saving graces at this facility are the recreation staff, a select amazing nurses and nursing supervisors (shout out to Lauren, Ziggy and nurse Jennifer), and his hard working case worker, Sol R."

"My mom was placed here for rehab & I visited her every day. Our 1st meeting they wanted all financial info & told me to put the house on the market because all of her $ was going to be for her care. They fed her mush which was unnecessary so I brought her dinner every single night. One night I arrived and found out they gave away her wheelchair & told me they were going to exercise her in bed, which was yet another battle with them. The next night. I brought her dinner & as I was lifting the bed & the meal tray, the meal tray got caught in the bed & the bed was tipping over so I was grabbing the bed screaming for help, trying to prevent her from ending up on the floor. I was able to reach the call button, I was pushing & pushing ut, anything in reach, I was throwing out in the hallway to get attention. It took 40 minutes for someone to help and it was a visitor who was walking down the hall to visit a loved one! After uprighting the bed, they ran for help. 40 minutes I was screaming for help. The next night, I guess after I raised a stink about the wheelchair giveaway/ no rehab, I went to visit & they had her in a wheelchair in the hallway, like a zombie, only recognizing her by he clothing, I had to call 911 because they refused, she was brought to Norwalk hospital & remained there for 6 days on interveinous antibiotics. STAY AWAY FROM CASSENA!!!!"
