Reviews of El Mate
"As an argentinean trying this place out, I was pretty disappointed. The provoleta was badly melted and not the right cheese. The milanesas were paper thin and the crust was falling off. Empanada al Malbec was good. The panqueque de dulce de leche was completely raw except on the corners. Sadly wont come back, they don’t even have wine! Service was kind and attentive, but quality of the food was not good."
"I’ll try to keep up short and simple. I came here with a high expectation of having great tasting food (ESPECIALLY after reading all of these positive reviews). To start we had the Polenta, fried calamari’s, and empanadas (ham & cheese, spinach, chorizo) we then proceeded to have the chicken Milanese, and the Seafood risotto. The polenta was good, I recommend it to those who are mushroom lovers. It was flavorful. The Calamari were simply too overcooked, and very chewy. Just terrible. (I called the server to retreat the plate and he never even asked why I wanted to return it. shows how much they care about the business) The empanadas were ok, the spinach one was bitter for some reason. The chicken Milanese was a disappointment. First of all, the presentation was awful. It looks like a 10 year old tried putting that plate together. It was missing more tomato sauce and it was a bit too dry. The seafood risotto was ok. It wasn’t flavorful, too loose with its consistency. I’m surprised the shrimp and calamari were cooked very well here! Overall, I had a bad experience with this restaurant. Oh and not to mention that their Caipirinhas was too watered down, and missing sweetness. I dont know where all these positive reviews come from. If you’re seeking for great tasting food I wouldn’t recommend this spot, instead go to Libertador if you want real Argentinian food."
"I'll start with "Wow!" Our first time. We were celebrating a friend's birthday; party of 4. Decided to try several appetizers first: empanadas were perfect; loved beef, eggplant/goat cheese most. The polenta was also perfect and the mushrooms and sauce so, so good! Wonderful mixed appetizer with fantastic blood sausage, chorizo and sweetbreads - great potato salad. Since we tried so many appetizers, we decided to share two main entrees. The chicken milanesa was amongst the best we've had outside of Argentina/Uruguay. Really tender and wonderful tasting; had the napolitana with ham and cheese on top. Perfection... The skirt steak was also perfect and wonderfully tasting. The recommended kale salad was also great and a good side for the meats. Outstanding french fries and rice & beans. Deserts were creative and good too. Surprised by how good the house wine was (a malbec). The passion fruit margarita also great. Our server was wonderful and the overall evening was great. The staff all worked together to ensure good service and a good time. "Gracias..." We'll be back..."
"What an excellent mother's day meal I had at El Mate. Everything was just perfect from the food, drinks and the service. For appetizers we chose 3 different empanadas, and all of them were delicious, and so were the calamari. The main course dishes grilled salmon and skirt steak were perfectly cooked. The skirt steak was cooked to the requested medium-rare doneness, and it was tender and juicy. All 3 desserts that we ordered were also delicious. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the dishes. Oh, and the service was very attentive. So I highly recommend this restaurant!"
"Very cozy place, the music matches the theme of the restaurant. Ariel was very attentive, and friendly throughout the even. The food was authentic and priced fairly. A must visit if in the area, overall a great experience. The overall cleanliness was a plus. The only thing I would change is the auto gratuity of 20% even for a party of two. I tend to tip more if it's not made mandatory. 5 stars if they make it for a party of 5 or more."
