Reviews of Bowery Dugout
"This is a great, solid reliable restaurant that's a part of the history of Kingston. It's a real restaurant, with good food and good service. It's not a concept. It's not an idea. It's a real restaurant serving real food and making people happy. These days I keep seeing this horrific gentrification destroying the places I grew up with both in NYC and now in the Hudson Valley. I went here as a kid, and it is such a joy to find that this place is still kicking. Thank you for a wonderful meal and for still being there."
"New England Clam Chowder: Taste and texture more like thick cream of potato soup with some clams in it. Congealed rapidly. Lobster tails: About 3/4 of the tails portion was mushy, as though they had been thawed, refrozen, then thawed again. For the price (didn't mind the price), ALL food served should have been fresh like it was off the boat. "Jumbo" stuffed shrimp: NOT jumbo. Average if not a bit smaller, and rubbery as though these were pre-cooked, frozen shrimp that were thawed and then cooked (overcooked, actually) again. Stuffing inside was delicious, my favorite part of the meal. Fried scallops: Scallops were tender and tasty, but had to take the breading off because it was so salty. Final verdict: Will not go back or recommend. There are other places, albeit maybe not so local, where an investment of this size would pay off in an amazingly fresh, well-prepared seafood splurge. Bowery Dugout left me feeling cheated."
"Soft shell crab, excellent. Was in the area for 4 days. Liked it so much I ate there 3 of the 4 days. Trying a different dish each time."
"This place was recommended by the front desk person at our hotel. He said that he is a foodie and this is a good local place. It didn't disappoint. Our bartender Zoe was excellent as well as our server Terri. Both were very good at what they do. My daughters and I enjoyed our seafood dinners. The Shrimp Scampi, Salmon and Seafood Combo were all tasty. Solid food. Good experience."
