Reviews of South Peak Veterinary Hospital
"Sadly, I agree with many reviewers that gave South Peak one star. My pets have been going to South Peak since Dr. Levitt and Dr. Leighton were the vets (yes, that's a long time!). It went downhill after Dr. Leighton passed away. I have a senior cat that went in for a wellness visit and was told that she was in pain due to problems with her teeth and would need two extracted at a cost of $900. I agreed to it and specified that the vet who examined my cat would be the vet who did the surgery. The first surgery was postponed at the last minute and when I brought the cat in for the surgerys, 8 teeth were extracted at a cost of over $2,000 and a different vet did the surgery. I was told to pick her up at 4:30 and waited in the reception area until 6:00 with people leaving with their pets. I was extremely concerned that there was such a long delay in picking up my cat. When she arrived, she was still in a drugged state and couldn't walk well. I will not go back! I also feel that this was done for financial reasons only. Dr. Leighton never mentioned any concern that he had for this pet's teeth. It's sad that South Peak lost such a wonderful person and vet - he is missed."
"Incredible gold-standard medicine. Caring, compassionate, and kind people all around. They are always willing to partner with me so we can make the best decisions for my pets' health together."
"Would not recommend dealing with this business. This is the exact sort of veterinary situation that mostly brings stress and confusion, while draining your wallet. I decided to give them a chance, as they were one of few in the area that had available bookings for new patients. I soon learned why. This business prioritizes whatever “treatments” cost the most money. I had 3 separate visits: 2 of which could've been combined into one visit, and the final was a practically-useless form of money-grabbing, in my opinion. I was also charged for things that conflicted with what was suggested for my pet’s needs, as if I wouldn't notice. I brought my cat here for concerns that needed quick attention. She had an infection, but their priority was to get her onto insulin as soon as possible. You'd think the first visit would treat the highest concerns first. An infection can turn deadly MUCH quicker than Diabetes will. They sent us home with human-sized medication for the infection, but clearly as stated in the exam room, my pet was unable to eat much from not feeling well. They ignored the fact that there is an antibiotic shot for exactly this reason, and instead focused on more ways to rack up the bill. This practice treated me like I wouldn't understand any medical terminology, and that I had no knowledge of anything in relation to the situation. There were many assumptions made in my absence, as well. Upon requesting and reviewing my cat’s medical records, I saw notations that proved to me where this company's priorities are at. Some notations had nothing to do with the situation: there were written observations as to why I wouldn't buy their expensive pet food, after dropping over 800$ on the first visit. Very unprofessional to be able to hear them talking in the back room, with the vet telling the tech what to tell me. Which sounded like a decoy to avoid any facial communication. Guilty much? The miscommunication in general between techs, vets, and their patient-parents is hugely concerning. The notations also wrote how I asked to be shown a certain medical procedure “again”, on the second visit, which did NOT happen whatsoever. This is exactly how accidents or wrongful treatments happen in the medical field. They expected me to treat her wound, which was very close to her eye, with a solution that clearly says DO NOT GET IN HER EYE. Does that make any sense? It's like they wanted to create a chance for the problem to worsen. After the 3rd visit, I was asked to return for more useless visits that conflicted with my schedule, but it was “in one ear and out the other '' as to why certain times wouldn't work for me. And yet again, it was something that could've been done on the previous visit that I already dropped enough money on. I decided to take my pet to another veterinary practice after I realized the nightmare this was already turning into. The new vet debunked any concerns, (which the previous vet had marked as abnormal, and it turned out to be false) and prioritized the correct things in just one visit. The new vet is clearly more knowledgeable in handling the situation, while also non-judgemental and willing to discuss my pet's results without assuming that I was too stupid to understand. She also didn't bring any egotistical nature into it. Save your pet and your money, and go elsewhere: this business will only use tactics to keep you returning while also undermining your intelligence. Best of luck. P.S.: Don't bother writing a response to my review. I don't want to discuss any more than I have, nor do I want to be coerced or guilted into returning ever again. Swallow your ego and maybe try to better your business by getting your priorities straight. It should be about the animals, not paying off your BMW."
"Once a great practice with Dr. Leighton is now in a steep and steady decline. They are an uncaring "corporation" now with the rates to go with this new status. Their office manager Joe is rude and condescending speaking in a manner which, if I were a man, he would not dare. I was recently charged $600 (outrageous) for a health certificate for a flight which I never received. (Actual cost to file this certification is $38!!) A friend of mine was charged $2500 for a spay and dental. After complaining it was greatly reduced. Shame on you Southpeak. Your business is about people and their animals who come to you at their most vulnerable times and your are taking advantage. There are still caring and compassionate vets out there and Southpeak no longer belongs in this category. RIPOFF IMHO"
"Our dog required emergency surgery and South Peak handled every aspect of her care with professionalism & compassion. I am grateful for the care the team provided, and to have my girl home & recovering beautifully. A million thanks !"
