About the Haverstraw Brick Museum
The Haverstraw Brick Museum, located at 12 Main Street in Haverstraw, New York, is a unique institution that celebrates the rich history and cultural heritage of the local community. The museum showcases the interconnectedness of historical processes with local identity and traditions through the work of internationally known artist, James Tyler. Tyler's colossal head sculptures, constructed using found bricks from the Haverstraw brickyards, pay homage to the untold stories of the workers in the local brick manufacturing tradition. The museum also features sculptures by OP.AL Architects Jonathan A. Scelsa and landscape architect Jennifer Birkland, with special thanks to Pratt School of Architecture and museum interns Jemma Liu and Jessica Jou Lin. Although the Spring Family Days have ended, the museum will be back in the fall for visitors to explore and learn about the fascinating history of Haverstraw.

Reviews of Haverstraw Brick Museum
"Fantastic museum, was lucky enough to have Steve give us a small condensed tour and I was incredibly insightful. Definitely would recommend!"
"The Haverstraw Brick Museum is a hidden gem in the Hudson Valley, offering a fascinating glimpse into the town's rich history and the vital role of the brick industry in its development. Located in a beautifully restored former brick factory, the museum houses a wealth of exhibits, artifacts, and interactive displays that bring the story of Haverstraw to life. The museum is impeccably maintained, with pride and care evident everywhere. The exhibits are thoughtfully designed and engaging, using a variety of multimedia elements to tell the story of Haverstraw's brick industry in an informative and entertaining way. I was particularly impressed with the museum's use of oral histories, which brought the voices of Haverstraw's residents to life and helped me connect with the town's past personally. The museum's exhibits span Haverstraw's entire history, from its early days as a Lenape settlement to its current status as a thriving community. I was particularly interested in the exhibits on the brick industry, which showed how the town's fortunes were tied to the production of bricks. The museum also has many exhibits on the town's culture and people, which gave me a better understanding of what makes Haverstraw unique. I highly recommend the Haverstraw Brick Museum to anyone looking for an educational and enjoyable experience. The museum is perfect for families, history buffs, and anyone who wants to learn more about the Hudson Valley. In addition to its exhibits, the museum offers many educational programs and events throughout the year and has a research library open to the public. Overall, I had a wonderful experience at the Haverstraw Brick Museum. I learned a lot about the town's history and was impressed with the museum's commitment to education and preservation. I highly recommend this museum to anyone visiting the Hudson Valley."
"Where you can learn about the history of the city and more."
"It provides such an interesting history of a long gone industry that built much of New York City. Although only a store front, you will find a lot about brick making, the people who owned the companies, the ones who did the hard work and the eventual demise of brick making."
"Excellent small museum focusing on the brick industry and its start in Haverstraw. Has very interesting displays reenacting several key community tragedies. Another exhibit is examples of the many bricks made in communities in Haverstraw and outlying communities. Regular events and lectures. We joined as members."
