"Sam's Point offers an unforgettable hiking experience with stunning trails that unveil breathtaking views. The enchanting beauty of ice caves, cascading waterfalls, and a sunset backdrop overlooking New York creates a mesmerizing tapestry of nature's wonders. A must-visit for outdoor enthusiasts seeking both tranquility and awe-inspiring landscapes! Worth mentioning: To get to the waterfall is about 1.7 miles. I do recommend good hiking shoes! We did around 5 miles."
"Verkeerderkill Falls is nice hike in the Sam's Point State Park. If you plan on hiking the Verkeerdeerkill Falls Trail you will definitely need to bring water and sunscreen. Most of the trees and plants around you are small and offer no shade from the sun. The reward at the end of the trail is very good. The park should consider adding distance markers to let you know how far you have until you reach the falls. Other parks in NY do this, and it would be helpful here. When you get to the falls there are a few ledges to watch them, be careful around these areas. Yes, some people have actually fallen off the ledges! A sign marking area for the falls would also be helpful. Several hikers were confused as to whether they were at the falls or not. All and all it's a good hike with a nice reward. If going here on the weekend be sure to reserve a parking spot at Sam's Point."
"Incredible trail! We parked at Sam's Point and began loop trail which takes you to the ice cave loop. The ice cave and loop around lake and old blueberry cabins takes about 3, 3.5 hours. The trail around lake is plenty wide with loose medium size gravel so sturdy shoes. The ice trail loop is a single file only with lots of narrow passages, ladders, wet streams, rock stairs and roots....Definitely gotta be good on your feet. The trail is so fun...makes you feel like an explorer but with the safety of excellent trail markers! (There is plenty of incline walking as well so be prepared for that. ) We did not do Verkeerderkill Falls but look forward to coming another day to explore that trail."
"Really great hike that takes you up a hill to an expansive plateau with low lying vegetation. You then traverse a small forest and come to the waterfall with great views. There isn't anywhere to swim at the falls and no access to the bottom. A relatively straightforward hike that is beautiful without being too busy."
"This is a great State Park and a most amazing trail. I highly recommend you take the Ice Cave loop, but, beware it can be hard for elderly and pets. The trail is narrow and well kept, the vegetation is amazing and so are the views."
