Island Pediatrics

"We go for Dr. Bucca. But the front desk staff are rude, short with us, and incompetent. (Can you look me in the eye when talking to me?) The last appointment we were there, I made it extremely clear that we no longer had X insurance and asked that it be taken off our account. Rather than listen to me, the staff billed the old insurance and I got letters from them saying we were no longer covered, etc, etc. I also got separate bills (from another situation) from them that I had no idea what the bills were for. I didn't realize that calling the after-hours line with a question for the doctor would result in them billing my insurance and billing me. It makes sense after they explained it, but the communication is SERIOUSLY lacking in that office and the customer services is more than lacking. Surprise bills are not good customer service. I have left on more than one occasion before being seen because of how we were being talked to by the front desk staff and/or nurses. Lastly, the last time we were in there, the nurses were performing tasks and when I asked for reasons WHY they were doing such and such, they didn't have an answer "it's just what we do." Well, I don't follow anyone blindly and if you don't have a good reason, don't do it. I need to know "WHY." Bucca is the reason we keep going...that and the fact that I have plenty of mom friends and none of them are thrilled with their pediatricians on the island, so I can't really switch."

"I was recommended to Dr. McMahon by my aunt 18 1/2 years ago. Have never regretted it. Dr. McMahon is an amazing person. He knows what he is doing and is hands on. He has treated my 3 children with the best care. Dr. Bucca has also treated my kids and she is very good too. I plan for all my kids to stay with Dr. McMahon until they age out. Best pediatrician on the Island."

"My baby was in NICU and I previously assigned Dr. Bucca as her pediatrician. She never came to see us and when we met her in the NICU didn’t say anything about our baby. She was very brash and had horrible beside manner. I brought my baby to the office twice and only saw Dr. Bucca once. She was so rude to me that I changed my pediatrician immediately after that visit. She was talking down to me...She was so unbelievably rude to me that I cried. I am not that sensitive of a person but i was by myself with my new baby and i just had her. New moms have crazy hormones, she should know about that and change her nasty tone. She is extremely unprofessional. Horrible experience. Dr. Bucca works in This office with McMahon. Unfortunately I have to put this review under his name. We Never met him though."

"I love Dr. McMahon, I he is one of few in the island who continue to take their pediatric/ speciality boards every few years. He is does his research before giving an opinion on things like the flu shot. He will come in on a Saturday or at night to come see you if there is concern. He is head of the peds department at RUMC. We have been patients for 14years+ we love Dr.McMahon and the rest of the staff there. The only set back is the wait time, but once you get through vaccines hopefully you are not there that often."

"We've been going to Dr. Mcmahon and Dr. Bucca for over three years now. They were always wonderful and very supportive to me when I became a new mother. But it wasn't until I had a daughter with special needs that Island Pediatrics became such an integral part of our lives. Dr. Mcmahon has gone above and beyond to give the support and care that my daughter needs. He has always been available to us and has set my mind at ease many times over the years with his knowledge and careful attention to detail. Yes, the office is small and a bit outdated ;) However, nothing can compare to the respectful and kind treatment we've received from the staff; I truly cannot recommend a practice so highly and am very grateful to have them as a part of our care team."
