Charles Memorial Park (Gateway National Recreation Area) Queens, NY 11414
About the Business
Charles Memorial Park, located in New York's Gateway National Recreation Area, is currently undergoing a beautification project to enhance its facilities for visitors. The playground area will be temporarily closed for resurfacing, while the ball fields, tennis courts, and basketball courts will remain open. The park offers a variety of activities such as picnicking, ranger programs, bird watching, and jogging along the multi-use pathway. The National Park Service and New York City Department of Parks and Recreation provide ranger programs on site, including kayak launchings, natural history explorations, and arts and crafts programs. The park has seen various improvements over the past year, including the installation of picnic tables, water fountains, and new lighting. Frank Charles Park, spanning 20 acres in Queens, was designed in the 1940s and transferred to the National Park Service in 1972. It serves as a recreational haven for both locals and tourists, preserving the natural beauty of Jamaica Bay.

"Many trails many tables good enough parking there are 2 different entrance but tons of greens, water and you can fish as well more pictures coming soon"
"Would be awesome if the city did a little more for this park. Great location and a really nice view. You have the tennis courts, grass, playground for the kids, ballpark area that seems to double as a dog area. This is a nice park around a generally nice neighborhood."
"Place for recreation. Naturally beauty. Different day Different look. The park is home to five tennis courts, a basketball court, two sports fields, and a children’s playground. There is a half-mile paved path open to pedestrians and skaters that circles the park. Benches are available for visitors to sit and look out over Jamaica Bay. There is a beach, but no swimming is allowed. Fishing is allowed anywhere along the beach area, and this is one of the few places to fish in the Jamaica Bay Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area where you do not need a parking permit."
"This park is very nice and not too crowded, good place to go there with familu also if you a lover of planes you can see them while JFK Airport using runway 31L for take-off. Good place to do exercise or play tennis. There is free parking."
