Reviews
"There's much to be said about Scott Powers Studios, but not all is good. But before I get to that, let's start with the positive. Pros: Great sessions with casting directors, agents, and other people who are encouraging and want to see you succeed as a working actor. Their knowledge, compassion, humor, and creativity are much needed for actors of all levels to learn, grow, and thrive in their crafts, whether on film, TV, theatre, voiceovers, or all of their specialties. Cons: I had a frightening and hurtful experience with Scott Powers regarding my payment for one of the classes. I've usually been very good at paying for the classes in installments. Still, I knew I needed more time to pay for my most recent class due to finances being incredibly tight lately and the rent and other essential needs being taken care of. I told Scott over the phone that I would come up with something by the end of the day or the following week. After much deliberation, I sent an email explaining to Scott that I could make the full payment after the session ended due to the rent needing to be paid and my work hours at my day job being sharply reduced, and I thought that would be enough. Fifteen minutes later, I received an email from Scott saying that I was removed from the class due to my inability to pay before the last session. I called him shortly afterward and explained the situation again, but what happened next could be best described as guilt-tripping, manipulation, and shaming tactics that shook me. Scott told me that "I dug my own grave" because of my inability to keep my promises, that "my reputation is ruined," and "I ruined everything for everyone else" because of my "niceness for weakness" and taking advantage of using payment plans to pay for the course. While in tears, I eventually paid the remaining $230 (which was needed for the rent) for the class that day. I didn't appreciate being hurt and taken advantage of in that way, and I never considered myself a lousy student simply because of things called "life" getting in the way of making the payments in full for the courses at one time. And I would never mistake niceness for weakness or ruin my reputation when I want to ensure that I have a roof over my head, food to eat, and my bills paid for the month. That's not me at all! I understand you must ensure everyone is paid in full in this business. You respect everyone who takes the time to educate you on everything you need to know and the basics of being kind to everyone. However, using shaming and guilt tactics to get what you want so everyone can stay on your good side is not an excellent way to do business. That's almost close to abuse, and as an abuse survivor, I'm reliving the trauma of being mentally, verbally, and emotionally abused again after what I experienced with Scott Powers. I may be one of the few people speaking out about this experience, but I would be grateful if you could think twice when dealing with someone like this. After what happened to me, I'm unsure if I will ever retake classes with Scott Powers Studios."
