"Such a fantastic experience every time we go. You always feel welcomed and comfortable the instant you walk through the door!"
"Like stepping back in time! Old fashioned set-up, many antique cameras and memorabilia! A museum inside a movie theater."
"What a unique place in Old Forge, NY. We love to go here to watch movies. The owner and his family are so nice. I recommend a visit here on a rainy day to see a movie with the kids. Enjoy"
"The Strand Theater opened in 1923, and has been a key part of Old Forge ever since. I’ve been visiting the Adirondacks each summer since I was a boy, and no summer is complete without catching a movie at the Strand. The Strand is not a modern luxury theater with reclining seats. Almost everything in the theater, especially in the room with the main screen, is original from a century ago, including the restored and re-upholstered seats, so they’re a bit smaller and harder than you might be used to. The tickets, though, are *very* reasonably priced: $6 matinee and $7 evening tickets (as of summer 2023) for first run films is truly a steal. It’s a great place for a family to see a movie together without breaking the bank. It’s also a fantastic example of a small family business. Bob Card and Helen Zyma, the owners, live above the theater and run everything themselves. Bob (a very friendly man with bushy eyebrows and long hair) sells the tickets and runs the films, and Helen runs the concession stand. As a bonus for old cinema lovers, the walls throughout the theater are covered with Bob’s collection of thousands of old cameras, as well as old projectors and other movie paraphernalia. It’s worth arriving early just to check it all out. If you go and you like what you see — especially if you like the theater itself — you can tell Bob yourself. He’ll be there waiting when your film ends. He loves to see and chat with his customers, and you’ll make his day. Personally, I can’t think of a better place to watch a new movie."
"This theatre is so beyond cool, and cheap af. Only $7 for a ticket! Make sure you get there early to check out all the old movie memorabilia… this place is littered with it!"
