Park Slope Academy of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu

"Competent, Committed, and Compassionate. My son and I both train at the Academy and it has been an absolute joy to be a part of the community. My son is in the Little Grapplers program for kids 5-10 and as a parent and fellow student myself I would strongly recommend any parent to consider sending their kid here. No other program we considered came anywhere close to the level of dedication and kindness we found here and I wouldn’t trade it for the world. As for me, my fitness levels are improving noticeably as I continue to train and I am constantly encouraged by the progress I make, while understanding that I have to earn each step I take forward in my training. Multiple Black belt level instructors lead a dedicated team of coaches who will take the time to assist if you struggle, but also push you to achieve the goals they know you can meet and not allow you to make excuses. Marc, Steve, Jeff, Jose and all the other coaches here (and of course Ms. Faith the wonderful program director) have been amazing to work with and I can’t wait to see my kid and I reach our next goals with the Academy."

"Amazing establishment. Was a newcomer to grappling when I joined, The Academy got me set up and now I am in love with the sport. The facility is clean and the culture here is insanely welcoming. The atmosphere is pretty chill and very conducive to a hobbyist like myself. Mark and Steve are awesome owners that really get after what they preach. They will never turn down a roll with a new student, will happily give you one on one advice, and apply pressure to force you to better yourself. They take safety very seriously, always taking time before a roll to remind everyone of the importance of taking care of each other. If you want to lay back and learn the sport at your own pace, this gym can help with that. If you want to go toe to toe, work hard, and really get after it at this gym, they can facilitate that as well. If you are on the fence about getting into the sport and not sure of what gym to join, this place is definitely your choice as a catch-all utilitarian grappling gym. Could not be more thankful for my decision to join The Academy."

"Absolutely love this place! Moved to Brooklyn in June 2022 with the intention to start my journey in BJJ. PSABJJ had by far the best honest reviews it seemed and after training for 5 months at this academy I can say that reviews are well deserved and yet still don’t do it justice. "This place is amazing! My daughter has been going here since she was 5 and we both LOVE it. The two professors are knowledgable and great with kids. They do an exceptional job of creating a welcoming atmosphere for all types of kids/adults. Having a daughter I particularly appreciate how geared towards women they are in a sport that has at times been male oriented. I have been consistently impressed at home much the students learn over their time here. "I've been at PSABJJ for almost 3 years and I'm finally getting around to writing this review. From an overall perspective I can say it has been a net-positive in my life and one of the best decisions I've made, ever. The coaches/professors (Marc and Steve) are top of the line. Both truly love jiu-jitsu and teaching the art to everyone here. They've been supportive from day one. They know when to push you a bit and when to give you space to develop through consistent training. They always have an effective answer for any questions about technique, mindset or preparation. They run a good, disciplined academy but also make it fun and enjoyable. You feel like family here. The people who train here are respectful and there is a true team feeling here. The facility and the mats are clean and the place is aesthetically pleasing. Overall if you want to train BJJ in Brooklyn, you need to come here. I did and I'm happy everytime I go to class, it's a great experience."
