Shindokan Budo - Long Island
About the Business
Shindokan Budo-Long Island is a health institution located at 80 Broadway, Greenlawn, New York, United States. Specializing in Dentokan Aikijujutsu, T’ai Chi Ch’uan, and Iaido (Classical Japanese Sword), we are dedicated to helping individuals achieve mind, body, and spirit balance through the practice of martial arts. Our focus is on Jujutsu, a Japanese martial art that emphasizes self-defense through attacking joints and vital points. With our specific style of Dentokan Aiki-Jujutsu, students not only learn physical techniques but also develop qualities such as concentration, patience, and inner peace.
At Shindokan Budo-LI, we follow the principles of Bushido, the Way of the Samurai Warrior, which promotes respect, confidence, courtesy, dedication, and perseverance. Our instructors provide a supportive and disciplined environment for students to grow both physically and spiritually. New students are encouraged to relax, take it easy, and pace themselves for steady development. Classes are offered throughout the week, providing ample opportunities for training and growth.
Come join us at Shindokan Budo-Long Island and embark on a journey of self-discovery and personal growth through the practice of martial arts.

"Everything about this place is amazing. They are so accepting to everyone from everywhere, skill level, age, or ability! The training is good and effective. The atmosphere is clean and not overwhelming. One hundred percent recommended for anyone looking for a good martial arts place!"
"Shindokan Budo is a traditional martial arts school. I enjoy training with fellow students everytime I am there. The exercise is rewarding. We learn self defense techniques against attacker from many different situations. Come and try us out I'm sure you will not regret it."
"I usually don't leave bad reviews, though this left an imprint on me. The people there were extremely friendly and welcoming, but when pulling one of the sensei's aside to correct him about the pronouns to use for me, he gave me a very awkward look and said "he'd just use my name" and then even failed at that. For a dojo who claims that "respect is always provided by the instructor", I sure wasn't respected. That respect shouldn't just stop as what you are use to. Your respect should extend to people from all walks of life, that includes trans and non-binary people. Respecting what people would like to be preferred to as is quite simple and there are many sources out there which can educate you on trans and non-binary people and how to respect them. I do not feel like giving a personal education lesson to someone who was supposed to give me respect, nor should i have to. It is extremely taxing on my mental health, and would not be a state I would want to train my body and mind in. I do not hold any ill-will towards anyone there, even that sensei. You all seem like friendly, welcoming and hard working people. I just wish that could be extended to trans and non-binary people. I hope this can serve as a lesson to treat everyone with respect, even of its not something you are used to. I would have loved to join the community, be a part of your family, but I felt extremely disrespected, upset and alone. Wishing everyone there the best."
"A dojo truly like no other. Sensei Smith and her staff are absolutely incredible with kids of all ages, and adults of all abilities. My daughters have been attending for almost 10 years combined and have loved every minute of it. Extra curricular events like Night of the Samurai and the annual summer get together, truly foster an incredible family atmosphere."
"Our kids (and also my wife!) have been going to Shindokan Budo for about seven years. It has been an amazing experience for everyone. Our main reason for joining was to help with focus. What we found was an incredible community of people, adults and children, who help and support each other. Not only were my kids learning how to focus their thoughts and concentrate, they experienced positive mentorship from older children and how to apply that themselves. Combined with the added self confidence, exercise, and ability to defend themselves, and we couldn't be happier with our experience here. Sensei Smith is wonderful and her instructors are all great. Highly recommended!"
