Reviews of Dr. Tamayev's (M.D., Ph.D.) Allergy and Immunology Clinic (Rego Park)
"I will start by saying Dr T has good bedside manners and seemed to be a good doctor. However, the 1 star review is a result of the extremely poorly managed billing and misinformation. During my visit Dr T told me at least twice, after double checking my insurance provider and coverage, that my allergy shots will be fully covered and I won’t have any copay/ deductible/ out of pocket expenses. I was sent a bill for $3000+ almost a year later and trying to get his office to actually help has been like talking to a brick wall. I talked to Nikia in his office first, who transferred me to Christina Manos, apparently the manager, who has since ghosted me. Zero call back (since April btw), zero follow up even after stating she would do so. Long version below When I first went to the doctor as a result of a referral from my PCP, he explained allergy testing and how that can help identify my issues. Then he explained the process of getting allergy shots. Given the multi session treatment for allergy shots, I asked a lot of questions. A couple specifically about my insurance coverage and how much out of pocket expense I would have. He looked through my information, even went out to confirm with his staff about what insurance I have, and said that it’s fully covered. I asked again to double check about coverage and specifically if there’s any copay/ out of pocket and he said “it won’t cost you anything out of pocket”. Fast forward now almost a year later, I have a bill of $3000 from his office! His office staff gave me the run around, then was told (by Nikia) that the manager (Christina Manos) is looking into it and will call back. I called her a few weeks after I didn’t hear back, and she tried to tell me the same thing. I explained again what the insurance provider said (that they used the wrong billing code, or the code that made this not covered) which is NOT what I was told by my doctor. She assured me that she was going to research this and get back to me. In the meantime, if I got any calls from the facility about bill to let them know she’s working on it. This was back in April. Fast forward to now, I have called and left 3 messages with the staff trying to get a hold of Christina. I am told each time that she would call back, but no response. Zero follow ups. Absolutely terrible and disastrous experience."
"Dr. Tamayev instantaneously was able to tell what I was suffering from after another doctor unfortunately did not after a sudden outbreak of hives. I thought it was a reaction eating some shrimp bcs that is when it happened. It got really bad and from the point I suffered from constant hive breakouts. Upon entering his office bcs the doc I usually went to was out he said you have this issue. The guy quite frankly is a genius because not only is an expert but he has emotional IQ that many docs today do not have.i still have serious issues and have to be very careful but because of him I could have potential gotten a vaccine that would have been more harmful then helpful. Quite literally I believe he saved me from what science call a cytokine storm within the body. Long winded review but his good expert knowledge and willingness to do testing I requested based on my rabbit hole fixation to find a root cause, he is open and receptive. That is the thing many medical practitioners today do not do with their patients. Simply put he is the real deal!"
"After taking the covid -19 vaccine I began breaking out in horrible hives/rashes all over my body. For months I went to different doctors who did nothing for me. My first visit with Dr. Tamayev he knew right away my conditions. Dr. Tamayev is very friendly and professional. He took the time to listen to me, he then took time to explain what was happening. He didn't rush me or cut me off while I was talking. He did an allergy test and we went from there. I travel every month from Elizabeth, NJ to Dr. Tamayev's office in Rego Park for treatment. That will tell how much trust I have in him. My condition has improved thanks to him being so knowledgeable. As I continue to heal with his expertise, I am grateful that I have him as my allergist. 11/2022"
"After 15 years of a slow progression of diagnoses from SIBO to Lupus to MCTD, I was tired of severely limiting my diet and still needing antibiotics and steroids to treat the fever, pain and other terribles from intestinal infections which were accompanied by swelling in my mouth, mouth lesions and biting my swollen tongue. My gastroenterologist told me basically I'd just have to live with it as there were too many food reactions to eliminate all problematic foods. I told him I was going to see an allergist the moment I left his office which he said was worth a try. A subway ride later, I asked Dr Tamayev if he could do skin testing for foods. He suggested testing for everything and explained cross reactivity to me. A couple months and many allergy shots later and I have no pain, no fevers, no petichiae dotting my arms, and I am slowly able to include more foods in my diet. ALL of my previous doctors acted as if blood testing were the gold standard for food reactions (and never discussed cross reactivity). Clearly, it's not. Thank you to Dr. Tamayev and his amazingly happy staff. They clearly love what they do, and each other."
"Dr Tamayev's polite bedside manner made my three year old feel at ease during his visit here. My son has allergy symptoms and has had a two month cough that has no subsided but after my consultation with him; i feel better and know that my sons condition shall improve. Over all the front desk staff and nurses are very nice and make conversation with you. They make you feel as if your not just a check but as if they actually love their job and that is important to me. PS he sees kids and adults, will be bringing myself in to get check Thank you Dr Tamayev and staff"
