"We were asked to write a review for this course so here is my experience with the evening phlebotomy course with Dr. Lupo. While I learned the content I needed to learn, I'm not pleased or comfortable with the learning environment. In terms of equipment, there were sometimes days when we didn't have enough supplies to complete enough venipunctures for that day or we had no supplies at all. In terms of the instructor, I have mixed feelings. While Dr. Lupo is obviously knowledgeable on the subject matter, his teaching methods leave a lot to be desired. He doesn't write anything down on the board and only verbally states the subject of the lecture, you are also only allowed to take notes via pen and paper. Not everyone is an auditory learner and can write down at the speed of a teacher's speaking pace. His reasoning is because his handwriting is bad. He has made it known that he can deduct or add points at his discretion. He would give points to students for things like lending a pen to a classmate or helping him adjust settings on his phone. There was a time when I was performing a venipuncture and blanked on the butterfly setup. Since I was stumped I asked the instructor or classmate for a hint at the next step. Dr. Lupo encouraged my classmate not to help me and told me I was performing horribly and he was not receptive when I pointed out that I was asking as I was trying to learn and would think my instructor would teach me. At this point I was upset and placed the butterfly needle down to collect myself and came back to attempt again. I was worried that Dr. Lupo may have deducted points from me that day. He also often talks about his past "trouble students" and discussed personal details that should've never been talked about about someone's life and should've been kept confidential purely out of respect. I am sure that student didn't realize that signing up for this course meant that they also signed up to their personal information and history to be shared with future students. Overall, I learned the content but I was unhappy with the professionalism of this course and suggest finding another training center."

"Northshore career institute is an amazing school to advance your education in the medical field! I went in 2016 for CNA with Mrs Moran, she was truly amazing! I also went back for phlebotomy with Mr. Moore & Doctor Lupo. Mr Moore the man the myth the lensmen’s!! Dr Lupo was truly incredible helped us learn and retain so much. Dr Lupo is full of knowledge and wisdom for book learning and REAL life on the job knowledge! Both times I had the pleasure to sit with Doctor Lewis who was very kind & helped me every step of the way to get signed up to start with affordable rates verses other schools. L Northshore is an accredited School through NYS verses some other schools are NOT! I highly recommend NSTI for continuing your education!"

"I enjoyed the day Phlebotomy class. We did sticks on each other which was very helpful for real scenarios because everyone in the class had different veins. Dr.Lupo and Mr.Moore were great educators and helped me get through the course and I feel confident about doing good on the national test. Dr.Lewis was also a kind and very good director at the school, helping us to make a payment plan so we could focus on the class. I recommend Northshore Career Training Institute to anyone looking to take a Phlebotomy, CNA or EKG certification class.
