Reviews of Family Medicine Associates
"Family Med Assoc of CNY has apparently been “weeding” people out of their practice without consideration of long-standing doctor-patient relationships or reasonable notifications. Their primary focus is the bottom-line without giving balance to the best interests of established customers (formerly known as the patients). Comments are related to Practice Management and NOT the physicians themselves. A caring practice looking to maintain an informed, trusting partnership with patients would give extra care to inform people of possible practice termination if not seen according to a new 3 year practice policy. Dr Nave had been my PCP since the early 1980’s. He is excellent! He has always had access to my numerous reg treatments from specialists (Cardiologists, rheumatologist, etc.) updated every 3-4 months for decades!!!! (blood work, EKG’s, Transthoracic Echo (TTE), Nuclear stress test, aborted ablation and much more). It was normal not to be seen by him for a few years. Why would I waste insurance $$ on redundant medical care – especially during the years of COVID when we were asked to be more prudent? As a former insurance professional, responsible for processing thousands of life, health, disability and workers comp claims’ I was in constant contact with hundreds of medical offices. I also have an MS in Health Services Management and can appreciate the changes in U.S. Healthcare. I know what good practice management operations looks like. This is not a well-run office in my opinion. 1/4/2024: I called Family Med Assoc for an appointment re: low left back pain near kidney radiating to hip. I was told for the first time of a new policy re: 3 yr no appt = no longer considered a patient. I was told to go to Urgent Care (that was in a contract dispute w/ my ins carrier) or the ER. This was not a condition that warranted the ER known to be overburdened with drug and heart-related emergencies. I requested she check directly w/ Dr Nave. UNBELIEVABLE: Dr. Nave agreed to see me for some basic tests and then requested I be set up for a Medicare Wellness evaluation. I was very happy. Then the Practice Manager OVERRULED Dr Nave and denied appt approval saying I was technically a new patient! That’s right – the doctor was overruled by the practice manager. Forty (40) year relationship - meant nothing. Not being informed of the new policy – meant nothing. The fact I had been in the office at the end of 2020 for blood work and suture removal and no one said anything about a new 3-year rule – meant nothing. The physicians directive – meant nothing 1/5/2024: I called back asking to speak with nurse or Practice Manager. I attempted to locate another near-term PCP unsuccessfully. 1/8/2024: No callback, but noted online notation saying “Patient can contact the Onondaga Medical Society…” etc At that point, I arranged / paid for my own diagnostic work-up to rule out kidney problems before seeking an orthopedic evaluation / treatment. Dealing with Family Med Assoc of CNY management is pretty much like that Seinfeld episode - "No soup for you!" – and they seem to enjoy delivering the message. No anger – just sadness at what this practice has become."
"Jessica Palmiero PAJess is a bright light in this world! I'm so grateful I chose to see her after my doctor moved out of the area. She is kind, considerate, compassionate, level headed, dedicated, listens, weighs options, makes sure I understand (I have a TBI, depression, and PTSD to name a few), is great at managing her time, I rarely have to wait long to see her, she knows her stuff, and she cares deeply about those in her care and it shows."
"I'm 65 years old and its been 3 years since my last visit. Been going to this office for 30 years. I called to set up an appointment and waited 10 minutes until a got someone. When I noted this to the person on the other end ... she said I was lucky because they are very busy and people have waited longer in quite a rude manner. I snapped back that you would think this would be an issue that would want to fix and she hung up. I then left my business and drove to the office. No other car was in their parking lot (busy?). I got my appointment in 5 minutes. But, I'm considered a new patient (been fairly healthy) and I go back to the end of the line and my appointment isn't until the last week of October. Things that make you go HMMM! Can you say "SNAFU" .... I'm sure you can."
"Ever since St.Joe's took over the customer service is offal!! I have been coming here for over twenty years. The doctor's are wonderful. I agree with the rest about calling it is almost impossible to get through when you do it is an answering service. I now go through the patient's portal and I get through to my doctor and his nurse! I haven't had any problems I see doctor Nave and he is the absolute best. They are very quick with getting back to me with everthing from test results to prescription refills. I say give them a chance."
