Reviews of The Mary Louis Academy
"As you may have heard, 1) TMLA needs to stand up against the nepotism and racial issues in the school. 2) Teachers can't be allowed to show favoritism to their daughters, we saw this in the religion dept. 3) If a student has a medical issue, a teacher of all people should be the most understanding to that. One homeroom teacher mentioned the personal health and absence issues of another student in class, without the student present and without the student's permission. I'm happy I left, atleast the class rigor was ok."
"Not inclusive enough toward BIPOC. It’s been over a decade since I first stepped foot into the building and I was disgusted to hear stories of disrespect, belittlement, micro/macro aggressions and the like from current students. Stories I, and other many graduates, could relate to. At this current moment, any parent of a BIPOC should think and research before enrolling their child. Your child’s mental well-being matters."
"My sister and I attended TMLA and loved it! Such a wonderful school and beautiful campus. My experience there was unforgettable and I can't imagine now ever not attending. I had caring and excellent teachers and faculty. I made long lasting friendships and I have TMLA to thank for that. TMLA shaped me into the person I am today. With my daughter now in the 7th grade, we are looking forward to exploring TMLA again!"
"I attended TMLA from 1969 - 1973. I was awarded the medal for Home Economics at our graduation ceremony. Oddly enough, after I graduated from Hunter College with a BA in Communications, I fell into a career in the budding Information Technology Industry which I took early retirement from in 2018. My educational foundation at Mary Louis prepared me to be ready for anything, to be able to change with the times, to succeed at anything I put my mind to. When I read that Home Economics is no longer a part of the NYS Board of Regents, it made me kind of sad, but what has made me happy is that TMLA has kept up with the times, moving forward to continue to provide young women with a stellar education and with the moral fortitude to succeed at anything they decide to do. I thank God for my parents who sacrificed so much to send me to such a wonderful school. I have such wonderful memories from it and am still friends with many classmates 40+ years later."
"This school saved me from a lifetime of poverty and living in the hood. If it wasn't for my scholarship, I would've ended up at a NYC public school. Everything I learned that has helped me in my career and in life was from this school. I am a minority and I never paid the fees (for fund raisers and club dues) on time, on account of growing up in extreme poverty, and I never had issues as others are describing in their reviews. I kept to myself when I went here so I didn't have issues with anyone and was at the top of my class. The negative review on here are probably from people who never went here or from people who were expelled with good reason."
