About the Business
Bronx Writing Academy, located at 270 East 167th Street in New York, is a middle school that is part of the Jordan L. Mott Campus restructure. Our school, established in 2004, caters to students in grades 6th-8th and is committed to fostering a safe, supportive, and culturally responsive community where every student can thrive academically and civically.
Our mission at Bronx Writing Academy is to help every student become an outstanding citizen, learner, and writer who celebrates and respects the culture and values of others. We believe in listening to every voice, working together in a safe environment, asking challenging questions, thinking critically, and embracing innovation to achieve extraordinary things for our school, community, and world.
In the upcoming year, we are excited to announce changes to our schedule that will extend the school day four days a week to allow for more instructional time in core classes. Wednesdays will have a slightly shorter dismissal time to accommodate teacher professional learning and family meetings. After school activities will still be available for those who wish to participate.
We invite you to reach out to us with any questions or concerns, and we will be hosting town halls to further discuss these changes at the end of August. We are looking forward to a productive and successful year at Bronx Writing Academy. For more information, you can contact us at 718-293-9048 or email us at [email protected].

"i love this school so far theres lots of drama but there are teachers and things kids get in trouble every second of the period.kids that dont listen get pulled to the side and if they continue they get a call home and detention.its only my 3rd month here but for my experience this is a good school. theirs a lot of kids that give disrespect to the teachers. if the kid goes to school and dosnt particapte aka dosnt past they will be in the same class right again. Fun fact when you hit 6 grade the people your in the same class in they will all be in your same class for 7th and 8th it will never change but the teachers will."
"I was bullied here and the staff did nothing. I got transferred to this school because for some reason the school I went to was low ranked at that time. To be totally honest, this school should’ve been low ranked. Students didn’t respect their teachers at this school. I couldn’t concentrate because there was always a student getting into trouble every minute in class. I was bullied so much that I asked my parents to transfer me back to my old school."
"Loved this school from start to finish I really wish I can go back on had two friends from there that I don't think I'll ever see again but I love this school a lot my favorite middle school"
"I'm a 2013 graduate from Bwa and I enjoyed my stay at the Bronx writing academy because of the effort teachers and staff made to keep all students safe and out of harms way. Yes, the environment may have been dangerous but there was cops patrolling the neighborhood and the school 24/7 to keep everyone safe...which I thought was annoying at the time but now I realize they were only doing their job and a good one at that. I do recommend this school because the teachers and all staff push you to do your very best and more, as long as your child is not disobedient and follows rules then this is the school for them. -cherise jones"
