Reviews of Franklin Delano Roosevelt High School
"Teachers are very helpful if you treat them right. Do not abuse your teachers and they won't abuse you. They offer Spanish class and recently started offering Chinese, would love to see more languages offered. English teachers do not help you improve your writing, nor do they help you practice for the SAT. Math teachers are sometimes hard to understand (as most speak with an accent). The "gym" is the hottest room in the building, it has no AC and no windows, and they force you to do exercise in this hot room which has, minimum, 100 other kids inside, it stinks. In addition, the lunch room in this school is disgusting, it has (it seems) 500 students in a big, hot, dirty room. There is no air to breathe as, obviously, they have no AC and no windows. Only the 4th floor has AC. Lockers are not available to students, only during gym class, in order to change you put your stuff in a locker and you have to take your stuff out after. They offer MANY electives, which is amazing. The school has a decent library, only downside is that freshmen keep coming in to chat with their friends... They don't realize that libraries are for studying/reading in quiet, not to hear about you breaking up with your "dumba*** boyfriend". Most classes have after or before school tutoring in order to help you. The best teachers in this school (from whom I had) were Ms. Callendar-mora (Spanish), Ms. Heller (liv env), Ms. Zaslavskaya (chemistry), and Ms. Pipitone (English). These teachers helped me advance to honors/ap/heritage classes. (Within a year of Spanish class I was moved to Heritage, as the teacher taught us so much, after 2 years I went into AP Spanish.), Ms. Heller brought me into her living environment class from slow-track, after 4 months of taking her class I received a 92 on the regents. Ms. Zaslavkaya is an amazing teacher if you do her work in class, do not listen to what others say. She is very good at teaching and she will have you passing the regents with a 90. Ms. Pipitone is the only English teacher in the school who has perfect grammar and a vast vocabulary. Most students in this school are either immigrants or children of immigrants. This is amazing, as it helps people who recently move here feel more welcome. Also, it would help make friends and create understanding from other people's points-of-views, as they grew up differently than you have, and have different experiences than you might have. I will recommend going to this school only if you are looking to work hard. Take as many honors classes as you can, as the students in non-honors classes are usually only there to graduate and party while doing so. Most classes are a joke if they are not honors, I would honestly say honors class is equal to regular classes in a good school. If you have the option, take the SAT class, as nothing on the SAT will be taught in any of your classes."
"Excellent school, i was not a great student, a teacher once told be i would never amount to anything, i wish she can see how i live now.."
"This review is for the looks of the HS as I didn't go to school there. I Went there for a gov't test and the school looked like it was falling apart and there was literally 2 restrooms (1 for boys 1 for girls) for a very big floor and the restroom for the boys is very small...small enough that there was a line for us men taking the test to use the restroom. Other than that the lockers looked nice."
"This was my second home! I was treated as a student, as a belonging personnel to the school. teachers are nice if you're nice to them."
"Graduated 2013, loved the school. clean, nice. Teachers (most) were dedicated people who cared about the students success."
