Reviews of Grover Cleveland High School
"Grover Cleveland High-school had the most difficult job in the world. During my time here I lost 80% of my friends to the hard times. They passed or went to prison. The teachers were fighting an up hill battle of impoverished students to the levels that made the third world look good and poor policy makers. Most Teachers here should have been university professors. There were some teachers with poor ESL skills but even so they never failed to be engaging despite their flaws. Normal Education is Programing but this school stood at the forefront to break the mold and allow for some free thought. Comparatively to NJ Teaches in NJ and Here Can't Ask Questions NJ/ Here Questions Are Encouraged Can't Correct Teachers NJ/Here Teachers Own Up To a Mistake Maybe The School has fallen on hard times but the students that went here didn't know if they would live or die or when the police would break down their doors not if. So given that I would have tried to have gotten more out of my education here if my dad wasn't paying 1400 for rent, utilities and gas and making 1600$. I lived more less off the free lunches this school provided growing up so I would have been dead if not for this school in the dark era of the Bush Administration. I was never more than 110 at 6 feet tall. I hope the teachers here never lose faith and never stop encouraging their students."
"The dean (won't state full name) Mr.H thinks that he runs the school. My schedule changed without the school letting me know, so I was marked absent for a week. The next day i went to my scheduled class I was checking what room I had to go to on my phone in the hallway... Mr.H sees me and i tell him that my schedule changed, but be here still writes me up for hanging out in the hallway and using my phone. I really don't enjoy going to school but I try my best to get there and I don't disrespect anyone for any reason, but he tells me that I need to learn how to respect him and others and to be to class on time. So this is my last day being here at this school. I've been here for 3 years and I'm still considered 9th grade while taking 10th grade classes during the 11th grade periods. If you go to this school, be sure to never use your phone there. Even though that school studies technology. Id rate 0 Stars if I could"
"I graduated from this school with the class of 2017. Before when I entered Grover Cleveland I thought it was going to be a lame school but it turns out that I met some of the nicest people in here. Some teachers are so cool. Just don’t be on there wrong side.. and just don’t be with the wrong crowd. Cause trust me being with the wrong crowd, could be a problem towards your education. And overall this school is a good school."
"I graduated from the class of 2017. These past 4 years have been a great experience for me. If you're focused on what you're there for instead of just looking to go to in a school, you'll be able enjoy it there. Socialize with the right people and connect with the teachers. If you ever have a feeling of joining a team go for it! I was in the Volleyball team and it was a great time. Most of the teachers will offer help in getting the education you deserve. 4 years go by quick so be sure to make the best of it!"
"I was the first black female to integrate Grover Cleveland mid year in the 1960's. My experience was as good as could have been expected under the circumstances. While I never interacted with any of the white students on a social level, I recall one white male commenting to his friends "she is not bad looking for a black girl". I took it as a compliment. I had a stenography teacher named Ms. D. who so inspired me that my confidence was through the roof and I went on to become a stenographer at Met Life Insurance Company in Manhattan. There were others whom I remember that I would rather not talk about. Thanks for the memories."
