"My son Joshua graduated from COVO in June and him attending this school was one of the best things that could have happened. The teachers and principal are outstanding. The teachers remain afterschool to assist students, they would even give up their lunch time to help him and other students if they needed extra assistance. They have many extracurricular activities and by 7th grade they were taking the kids on trips to different colleges. They are preparing future leaders in this school. The faculty treated my child like a human being, he knows that he can talk to the teacher or the principal if something is bothering him. They are respectful and professional. My daughter will be attending in the fall and she is looking forwarding to joining covo. Ashlyn"

"Community voices middle school is a great environment in which children like myself can learn and evolve into independent young people this school has a lot to offer.Pink jewels is one of the great programs that this school offers the program was designed to teach young girls how to be leaders as a former pink jewels I was thought discipline, we did fundraisers, we helped planed events such as the women in powerment brunch. I’ve been in covo for 3 years and am leaving this year but I never once regret it because I gained more than knowledge I gained a family am proud to say that covo is my family"
"I was part of the first graduating class so hopefully things have gotten better since, but my experience here wasn't that great. I met some great friends and inspirational teachers, and the dress code was pretty simple (khaki or grey pants/skirt with either the school shirt or just a purple or grey shirt) but my praise ends there. Not naming names, but there were a few teachers who totally ruined my experience there. Most kids are ghetto, rude, and disrespectful. It wasn't uncommon for the class to get so rowdy that the teacher just gave up trying to calm them down, and would wait for them to settle down on their own, which they usually wouldn't, until the bell rings. As you might imagine, favoritism is pretty rife here too. It was at its worst during my senior year... only a select few classes in the senior grade were allowed to go on fun trips (and before you assume my class and others weren't invited because all of us were bad, the freaking valedictorian was in my class and they weren't invited either.) The senior trip was a day trip to Holiday Hills, which wouldn't be so bad if 1) We weren't promised an overnight trip and 2) All the lower grades were going camping and to Washington DC as overnight trips. And the moving from class to class... Ugh, I don't even wanna go there. Another thing, the bookload is huge (the average weight of my backpack in 6th grade was 30 pounds, yes I weighed it) and there are no lockers. I've noted that since graduating, I get occasional shoulder and back pains. Might be a coincidence, but it's worth noting. Also, I constantly got in trouble for trying to go to the library during lunch instead of recess, regardless of whether I had a pass. The true irony was that the library was advertised as being open to students during lunch. On one occasion, I got detention for trying to return a book there. I guess that's one way to discourage kids from reading. Finally, senior dues. I clearly remember this one. I paid $50 in dues, assumed it went in, lost the receipt a little later, and they later came to me and said I didn't give them the $50. I also paid $5 for the senior breakfast, which I was never able to eat because they were handing out caps and gowns during that time, and apparently lost mine or something. I had to wait so long for a replacement that by the time I got one, all the food was gone. Disorganized, dishonest, and full of thieves with both the teachers and students. Do yourself a favor and avoid this school like the plague."
"THE WORSE SCHOOL TO ADD TO NYC'S PUBLIC SCHOOLS REPUTATION. My boys were there for 1 semester and today was their last day. Teachers proctor classes only when the deranged kids calm down. If they are unable to settle down, the entire class time was wasted. Just another excuse for lazy those so call teachers, who can't teach or who have large college student loans to work their debts down in poor performing schools."
