Reviews of Excellence Girls Charter School
"I am the parent of two Excellence Girls Middle Academy scholars. My eldest just graduated and my youngest just entered 6th grade. It is a blessing to have a all Girls Charter School in our community, teaching our girls how to be strong, confident, respectful and resilient. Not to mention the vigorous curriculum. Excellence Girls holds our daughters to high expectations. Scholars are expected to carry themselves as young ladies, respecting each other and their teachers. The teachers work very hard, and I love that you have their phone numbers should you need it. Yes, they are strict but that works for me and my two daughters. Both girls understand that there are rules everywhere, and if you don’t follow the rules that there are consequences, just like at home. They absolutely knows what they are doing, because it’s working. As a parent who want what’s best for my children, I am so grateful that I don’t have to worry about a ton of things that goes on in other middle schools. I can go on and on, not because everything is 100% there but because I know that they have a passion to make a difference and that they are truly preparing our girls to succeed. My family will forever be grateful to Excellence Girls Charter School."
"I had 2 daughters going there. One left to go to another and since leaving she's been on the dean's list 2 times in a row. The other girl is in the graduating class and while her grades are decent the fact that her teachers are petty little bullies raises questions. She's been complaining ever since the 5th grade as was my other daughter and I'm seeing it's not just me. The teachers sound like they have personal issues and take it out on the girls. I wouldn't mind if the city just outright closed this place down because it's useless. I got a list of gripes but i don't have the time to address them here because that would require a whole day. They need to shift their focus from being overly disciplinary to improving the academics. Violating children is how you get randomly stomped out by unfamiliar individuals. Yes I said it"
"I would not recommend this school for ANYONE. This school just isn't worth it, and I'm going to be telling you all why. This is coming from a student in the graduating class. This school claims to be doing better than the rest. They claimed to be scoring the highest IA scores, and above average on the state exams. However, that is not the case. This school does POORLY. In the math IA, we were placed 19/23. We did better on the ELA exams, but we're still not the highest. This school used to give us a paper claiming that we did better than other public schools, yet half of the girls can't don't participate or listen in class. This school doesn't have good results. Following my previous point, the education tactics are also poor. Kids complain everyday about how the teachers rarely get through the lesson, leaving them clueless about the homework. The teachers are also very rude, with one teacher telling a student, "that's why you know nothing." Once, the sixth grade had gone weeks without a science teacher. Also, the teachers force you to use strategies that don't work for you, giving you consequences if you don't. This leads me into my next point. The disciplinary action. Everything is a send out. I've had friends who would pick up their pencil and get sent out for being out of their seat. They don't want you to move, twitch, or even breathe too loud. They treat us like robots that need to do everything they say. If you get two send outs in a week, you have ISS. Basically, if you get out of your seat twice, it's an ISS. They are ruining your report for simple infractions. Once, I asked my friend, "hey, can I use that pen?" and I was given a consequence. Thus, this often leads to a backlash from the class. The students here have terrible behavior. This school wants to be portrayed as a "sisterhood," yet there's a LOT of bullying, gossiping, and fighting. There has been a fights a few feet off school grounds between two students, and there was a fight in the cafeteria. Hardly anyone gets along, and there's a lot of "cliques." That's not an Enviornment that I would want my child to go to, and that's coming from a student. People here steal other people's homeworks and throw them out, cheat on tests, and misbehave during class, making my history teacher walk out crying several times. My last point is the HIGHSCHOOL. This school is using the graduating class as Guinea pigs. They push and push and push the smart kids like me to apply for that school because we could make them AND the high school look better. The high school has little to offer, with only a handful of students going to universities. However, we were forced to apply. I was even sent to the Dean's office for refusing to complete the application, as well as other students. That just screams unfair and control. Therefore, this school is horrible. If your child goes to the MUCH BETTER Excellence Girls elementary, hopefully, this school becomes better, but if not, you can find a better middle school."
"This place cares nothing about their students mentality or personal lives. I was literally having an anxiety attack and when I left the room to call my dad and calm down for the goodness of my health, I got in trouble. Again, I had another nervous attack and went to the office (with permission) one administrator assumed I was faking. This school is good for education but ruins kids' individuality and humanity"
"This school is one of the best opportunities for a high quality education a family can receive. My daughter has been in this school since its founding year eight years ago and we have never been disappointed by the teachers or administration. It's hard work for both the children and the school staff preparing children to be successful adults. They really help every child get what they need. It just takes a strong partnership between the families and the school for everyone to be successful and I have always felt like they were willing to work with us every step of the way."
