"This school is the furthest thing from a nurturing environment. Their incredibly low standards make it very easy for students who put in the least amount of effort to get 65s-70s, anything to pass the class or even slip them into honors/AP classes. The students are unruly, disrespectful, and have an overwhelming sense of entitlement. A lot of them shouldn't have graduated. This school will not prepare your child for college."
"My daughter graduate from from BLA in 2010. Now she has a BS in Psychology, Temple University, 2014. Her accomplishment is a manifestation of this extraordinary school. The educational environment is nurturing for all, including the students, educators, staff, administrators, parents and community. BLA deserves a very close look at what is right in that school. I miss going to that school every day and enjoying looking at kids excited about being in a place where they are loved, inspired and educated beyond their dreams. Carry on BLA! Readers ignore the nasty review I just almost missed. Probably a true "hater" who needs psychological help!"
"This is a great school if you use it to your advantage, some people just go there and slack and also to walk around the hallways. They don't do what they are supposed to do, then their parents think the school is bad when in reality its their kid who its not being a good student. Yes there are people in the school who are lazy and disrespectful but not everyone is like that so dont put everyone under the same tag because that happens to all school not just this one no matter how good it is...this school has a great principal and great teachers who would help your kid every step of the way, they would be there whenever needed if your kid takes advantage of this if not then they are in for failure...As a former student of this school and graduating on time with a good GPA And now going to a good college, I should know if they school was good or not..."
"It is such a shame that they don't make the schools as they use to back in our day. It is a disgrace to our community and young leaders to have such poor effort come from a school that once was looked up too and spoken very highly of. There are very few staff and faculty members that are willing to help our youth. and go the extra mile for them. as well as their are faculty members who don't care and look the other way. It's not easy to deal with some of these students as well as faculty members, i get that but there are some good ones still. you can't let one rotten apple ruin the bunch, you must get rid of that bad apple. In most cases that bad apple stays and than it turns out to be a domino effect. I SALUTE Mr. Perry, MR. Rufo, Mr. C, Mr. Johnson, Mr. Fortune for all their effort and hard work They put into these kids. if i may have missed your name i apologize. Now on the other hand for the EFFORTLESS faculty staff that BLA unfortunately has present including principal Mr. YIP, counselor Ms. Santiago the lazy school safety that work at the front reception area. the lazy misinformed receptionist at the general office. Ms. Hutchinson and the list goes on and on. i hope you all read this and take a good look at your selves. because you all are a disgrace to our youth and the DOE. i will make sure the parents of the students of BLA stand together to have you all removed from BLA!! and for those parents who are unaware Mr. Yip is on principal try outs. which means he isn't the official principal and we still have a chance to make this school better. PARENTS WE ARE OUR CHILDREN'S VOICE LETS BE HEARD!"
"I am a former student of BLA and am proud to say that I went there! I don't appreciate the comments that reflect negatively on the school because our job as citizens is to uplift our community, not tear it down, and BLA has been a lasting positive influence in the Bronx community. While there were definitely opportunities for improvement, this school offered quality education as well as guidance, with instructors that had/have impressive resumes and some street smarts. There is only so much that can be expected of a school when such institutions are often devoid of sufficient resources and funding in comparison to schools with more affluent families and more money. I urge parents that are unhappy with the school to instead seek ways to raise funds and network so that the school can achieve even more success! I respect the school and all the faculty members who ensured that every kid who entered the school had the tools to become an accomplished adult, I hope that I can do the same when I become a teacher!"
