Reviews of P.S. 316 Elijah G. Stroud Elementary
"This is a school where the school security guard knows parents and cares for children as he would his own. The principal is amazing, and also cares above and beyond her job as a school leader. Is the school perfect? No, there is some racial tensions as the neighborhood has changed, just like many urban areas. In general, parents send their kids here for the caring and loving environment, plus the many extracurricular activities. If you want a cookie-cutter environment where all the students look like each other, this is not that school. It is diverse (please note the Gifted and Talented program is also diverse), and that was a huge draw for me."
"I personally experienced a lack of honesty, failure to demonstrate professional etiquette, and an immense problem with internal communication amongst administration at P.S. 316. The school "leaders” not only demonstrated failure to organize a simple timetable, but also a failed to be honest and open about their faults. It is one thing to make a mistake, be disorganized, and show a lack of clear lines in internal communication once; this in itself could be read as an error. If you make the same mistake twice, it could start to be read as a pattern. However, to make demonstrate disorganization, dishonesty, and serious problems with internal communication three times without apology and without acknowledgment of making a mistake points to a larger more imminent problem with the school’s administration team. Just imagine how these qualities and behaviors are played out in managing a school and educating children. It is a tragedy that the adults who we trust our children with to manage and lead a school, lack the most essential qualities we would like to be teaching our children: respect, honesty, and open communication. Shame on you Public School 316 administrators for failing to model positive behaviors, failing to show organization and open communication, and failure to positively lead a school."
"Finishing our second year at PS316 and happy to have my son at this school. The teachers are talented and caring. The principal is engaged and interested in the well being of the kids. The parents continually come together to enrich the school and create a community."
"I am an alum, Class of 1981. I was enrolled in grades 1-6. I have many fond memories of all the staff from each year of my education and social development. I received instruction from Ms. Kleinmann in 2nd grade Ms. Braithwaite in 3rd grade, Ms. Ashe in 4th, and Ms. Bishop (my most LOVED teacher) in 5th and 6th grade. Ms Bishop was a tuff cookie - I was not her favorite student, as I was predisposed to mischief. I was educated well, (however reluctantly). The song we were taught in memory of Policeman Elijah G. Stroud's heroism and for our school pride, I can still recall ALL of its lyrics and love it nearly as much as the Pledge of Allegiance. Thank you PS 316 !!!"
"I think P.S.316 is a great place academically, but i think safety is not a thing that P.S.316 has in check. Children like myself are bullied almost everyday. Not only we have to worry about children being bullies but staff too. Us children are supposed to feel safe at school. Even if children bully us were supposed to rely on the adults. Its so sad that we can't even rely on them. There are moments where its good but mostly bad."
