"I hate this school, immensely. I am sometimes ashamed to say I have gone here. School was so horrible, I had to leave to get homeschooled for the remainder of the year after March. I actually learned MORE being homeschooled than being in that school. I remember- one of our math teachers took off for about 2 or more weeks. She would come in once or twice, then leave again. We were extremely behind because of this. Most students learned absolutely nothing in that time of her.. absence. The substitutes didn't seem to know much either. Most of the time, they just stood around.. trying to calm down students. Despite other reviews, I've never seen drugs in school. Smoking in the bathrooms? Never seen it as the teachers had such strict rules about the bathroom and who goes in/out and when they can go in and out. This could've been enforced because of the 'drug-use within the bathroom' claims, but in my time of being there, not once had I smelled/seen drugs. However, I remember at one point in 8th grade, a student cutting class came to harass an older teacher Mrs.Trombetta. I'd say the woman must be laid off or something, she's so strict and ruthless that she makes a lot of students resent her. Including me, I've had my fair share of strict teachers, but she was truly like no other. She'd often make me despise entering her class as I felt a single thing I did upset her. I give two stars, out of being generous. As most of the students I met were awful people. Not everyone of course, but I do remember situations in 7th grade, where I had to file a police report because of a "friend" of mine stealing my personal belongings! I also once had gotten threatened to get beat up by a guy and his friends because I wouldn't do something really trivial. Anyway, don't go to this school."
"This school was quite fun when I went there. The teachers really care about us which was super important for the quieter kids like me to have. They really wanted us to succeed and be better people. It lost a star because there were fights in the school. However if you put yourself around productive people, and are secure in the good character that has hopefully been instilled in you, then you have little to nothing to worry about. As long as the focus remains on succeeding academically and in extracurriculars. Truth be told there are MANY middles schools that have fights. Unfortunately it's not a new thing."
"I'm only giving this school one star because I just want to try and be nice. However this school is filled with an infestation of drugs being used and sold. There are fights everyday and teachers lie on their students or stretch the truth. The principal is trying to.be a Joe Clark but he is failing fast. No up to date text books and the bathrooms are dirty and kids are always smoking in the bathrooms. My son who is disabled was framed by staff who wanted to make a name for theirselves. Send your kids to another school. Students have no.privacy reg grades or being suspended etc because all the teachers and students know your child's business when there are hipa laws they should be following. What's up with no air conditioners in this school? They claim to care about your child's safety but your child can have heat stroke when it's hot. My son also witnessed a Dean throw a student against the wall with full force . June 23 IS 49 got trashed. The entire outside of the school looks like a paper factory that exploded. Mr D runs like a little girl he is the biggest sissy that I ever saw. The teachers were having a nervous breakdown as the students trashed the outside of the school. Remember if you ever need a supply of weed this is the school to find it in. These teachers in IS 49 are a joke but be very careful of the paraprofessionals. Two of them were arrested for selling drugs when school first started but now I hear there are five other Paras that also sell weed so keep your eyes open parents. Friday June 30th 2017 It was disclosed to.me by my son Colin's best friends father that all of Colin's teachers called him and informed him of Colin's grades. I'm.curious is it possible for a school and their teachers to tell an individual who is not even the parent a child's grades? I'm wondering isn't their HIPA laws that come into.play here? My wife and I had to wait till the last day of school to find out my son's grades. Meanwhile this guy who is not even the father of my son gets a phone call from each of my son's teachers as to what grade he got in each class. Wow this is something that needs to be investigated because not once did I give permission for this to take place. Parents this school needs to be monitored by.the Board of Ed very closely because there are so much laws being broken by teachers and administration."
"I was there for only two weeks and it was horrible. Bullying... lots of bullying. And also, the teachers treated me like crap as well. The class organization was horrible. This should be the last school to go to on Staten Island."
"I went to this school for my senior year in Jr. High school on 2010 and I disliked the students very much. The students bully each other, steal and fight very often. And the victims of bullying are often the minority race of the school. Me being Asian, i was bullied by most of the African American kids just for the fact that I'm Asian. Now I am NOT saying all the African American kids in this school are bullies and bad kids, but from my experience I got bullied a lot from them. Also drugs. Lots of drugs. A lot of kids smoke and sell weed. There are metal detectors 2 or more times a week which means your kids won't be able to have a cell phone and your only way of contacting your child is to call the school. The teachers on the other hand are mostly very cool and respectful. If I had a kid I wouldn't send him/her to this school"
