"I had a good experience with Black Mountain Handyman. It was a relatively big job. A full bath and a half bath remodel. This was a job which was from the studs up. There were a few incidents where we decided that we'd like something different, or something changed. They made sure everything was to our satisfaction. Planning on doing the kitchen next."
"Updated rating: The owner was very helpful in resolving my complaints. I appreciate the time he took to listen and understand from a customer experience. I've changed my rating from 1 star to 3 stars because of the customer service received by the owner. I would recommend this company, but be sure to verify estimated costs (number of men coming to help) and expenditures accrued along the way. But overall, great customer service provided by the owner and quality of workmanship was solid. INVOICING: This company overcharges for materials they buy during a home repair and don't show you an itemized list with receipts of what it is you're getting billed for. I had $143.89 charged to me for 3 gutter downspout adapters and 3 screws (that's all that was listed on my invoice). A downspout adapter is $6.99 at Ace Hardware. I pressed the Office Manager on the over inflated math and she had no answer, nor did she respond to my email asking for an itemized list of items purchased, with receipts. So basically they charge what they want and can't show you the receipts you have to pay for. LABOR: While the work was done well, they sent sent two workers to my house (the job only called for one), and asked if it was OK to send someone in training/getting trained/learning on the job and that he would be shadowing the lead handyman. The entire time they were at my place, the lead handyman was teaching the other one about everything (I was there in the home). I got billed for that 4.5 hour training session when originally, during the phone call with the Office Manager, it was positioned as "Would it be OK if he came along as he was learning from the other one." Such a scam to throw in an additional handyman under the premise that he was learning, then get billed for both men. Unbelievable. Poor ethical decisioning making and lied when I asked about it. Sad about this experience as I was hoping to use them for literally thousands of dollars of work needed, but once I saw the shady business practice and padded invoice, I was out."
"BOTTOM LINE: we’re glad they did it – worth every penny! PLANNING BMH staff defined the initial scope of the proposed project with a thorough inspection, and identified issues that we had not recognized. The detailed estimate was consistent with our discussions, with good clarifications. WORK Hidden issues, found in the demolition/discovery phase were reflected in updated estimates. Workmanship was impressively good: the focus was to “get it right”. A notable component of the BMH crew was their teamwork: there was never anyone “leaning on a shovel”! COMPLETION The invoices, showing actual expenses, was aligned with the updated estimates. Gene and Mary Lou"
"I cannot imagine anyone finding fault with Black Mountain Handyman. The staff and crew are professional in every way. I've engaged BMH for many, varied projects, from installing a clothesline to remodeling three bathrooms, and everything they've done has been outstanding. What's more, they've been throughly transparent, explaining their hourly charges in advance and providing detailed quotes for the larger jobs. Jessica, the office manager, is always cheerful and helpful, and the handymen themselves are unfailingly friendly and polite. It was a pleasure to have the BMH crew in my home, and I look forward to enjoying their exemplary craftsmanship for years to come."
"The several small projects (repair of rotting roof and entrance, replacement of garage lights, resetting of two heavy storm doors, newel post cap resetting) were completed just as we asked, even though we were away from home when the work was done. We were quite comfortable with their working on our home in our absence. Our conversations with Mark and Rob prior to the work was time well spent, and got all of us on the same page. Black Mountain Handyman's well earned positive reputation might mean a lengthy wait from initial contact to arrival of BMH personnel to do the job, but it's well worth the wait."
