Reviews of White Bear
"White Bear in Flushing truly stands out for its exceptional dumplings, making it well worth a visit. This eatery's menu, featuring 34 different options, is highlighted by the highly popular no. 6 - a plate of wontons with hot sauce. These wontons are a delightful mix of pork and vegetables, masterfully encased in wrappers that are incredibly soft yet offer a slight chewiness. An order includes 12 wontons, which is perfect for a light meal or to share. For those looking to enjoy the taste of White Bear at home, they offer the convenient option of purchasing 100 frozen wontons. This makes White Bear not just destination but also a source for those seeking to replicate their exquisite flavors in their own kitchen."
"Fantastic food, most authentic that I’ve had outside of China. Prepared fresh and brought out to you in minutes. No seating but no problem if it’s not too cold, you can stand nearby and enjoy your meal."
"The GOAT of wontons. Been coming here for many years, honestly surprised they're still surviving post covid. An elderly couple runs this, they have a sizeable menu but the main star is the #6, a dozen wontons in hot chili oil with pickled mustard greens. I don't know how they do it, but the acidic saltiness of the greens combined with the magical spices they used is (scalding hot) heaven in your mouth. Inflation is catching up to them ($10 for a dozen) but I think it's still worth it."
"I made the trip from Manhattan to this try this place out and boy, was it worth it. I ordered the Number 6 special: dumplings with hot paste. The lady quickly handed me my food not long after I paid from the pick-up window. It was phenomenal. Every bite was bursting with flavors and spices dancing around in my mouth in pure harmony. If you’re in the city, don’t skip on this place."
"Overhyped wontons with chilli oil. 1. Wontons were served at room temperature, not hot off the stove 2. Sauce lacked flavour, spicy oil was just oil with almost no kick 3. Thick wonton skins 4. Pork didn’t taste that fresh 5. Price was expensive, $8.5 for 8 wontons for a take out hole in the wall I’ve heard they use to be good but with the hype their quality has decline over the last decade."
