"My wife, who suffers from severe depression and anxiety, and I had a terrible experience with the secretary today. Felt as though we were being lied to & discriminated against for having Medicaid Insurance even though they are listed in the Fidelis Medicaid providers book. I called Dr Cohen's office on behalf of my wife a few months ago and they said they were book for a while, they told us to call back. I called back today 2/1/2023 @ 3:37pm, they misunderstood me thinking I said she was an existing patient. Once I clarified that she was a new patient they asked how we heard of The Office. I told them we saw a Google review and via word of mouth. They seemed as if they might give us an appointment until they asked what insurance we had. I told them Fidelis medicaid, they said they are no longer accepting Fidelis patients but hadnt sent out the letters yet, I suggested we might switch to another Medicaid plan. Then all of a sudden they weren't accepting any more Medicaid or "any government plans" ( as she stated with attitude). I then suggested we might get private insurance because my wife suffers from severe anxiety and depression, we heard good reviews about their office and my wife prefers smaller offices and practices. She then told me they were no longer accepting ANY INSURANCES AT ALL and would only be accepting cash! I was clearly being lied to and discriminated against for my wife and I having Fidelis Medicaid! I will be looking into this further and I filed a complaint with Fidelis Medicaid. I will also note that the secretary was extremely nice when she thought that my wife was an existing patient. But once she heard that our insurance provider was Fidelis Medicaid she became extremely rude, short with me and disrespectful. Then proceeded to end the call with me before I had finished speaking!"
"Dr Cohen reminds me of how dentist offices used to be run. ONE dentist (so you always get the same person, who gets to know the issues specific to your teeth), who takes the time to get the job done right. I had called about 6 weeks ago with a broken tooth that was causing a lot of pain. She was still catching up on her clients who didn't come in during COVID so the receptionist suggested a place that could stabilize the tooth and we made a follow up appointment for Dr Cohen to assess the tooth for treatment. My last dentists had convinced me to have the tooth in front of this one pulled because they said my insurance wouldn't cover a root canal because it was a back tooth and i couldn't afford the RC out of pocket. Dr Cohen managed to get the same insurance company to cover the root canal for this tooth. That right there showed me she put in the effort to ensure that the request was done right. (That same large, multi doctor office also screwed up a request for my father to get fitted for dentures). I had the root canal done yesterday. She took her time to clear the calcified channels and I'm now booked to be fitted for the crown. This appointment took 2.5hrs. She didn't rush and made sure everything was done right and showed me the x-rays. Also, in spite of her telling me I might have pain for a few days because the work intruded on the sinus cavity, I only have very mild discomfort. BONUS. While I was being worked on Dr Cohen had an emergency call and put the person in after her last client...meaning she would likely be in the office until at least 8pm. Good luck with that treatment in your corporate dental practices! Dr Cohen may not be for everyone. If you want to have 20 dentists waiting to see you for every little thing (as long as it is between 9 and 5 on a weekday), then go to a large office. If you want someone who will take the time to do things right and who will fit you in as fast as possible when you REALLY need help, call Dr Cohen. Oh - also Dr Cohen *double masks* while working on you. With COVID, and the fact that your mouth is gaping open for quite awhile when being worked on, I find it very questionable when the dentist wears an ill fitting surgical mask (as happened where I got the tooth stabilized). That right there sold me on day one. I appreciate that she's looking after us BOTH even tho it's not fun to work for hours with a double mask."
"Amazing dentist and I haven’t been to one in over ten years due to dentist phobia! She made me calm and relaxed, talked me through everything she was doing! Did amazing job on my crowns!! I couldn’t be happier with choosing her!"
"My two visits at dr Leslie Cohen’s office, where I had a cleaning and X-rays taken, everything went fine. However, for over a month now I have been trying to have my X-rays sent to my new dentist’s office (I changed dentists because I moved). Myself and my new dentist have had to send multiple requests outlining who to send the files to and have had to remind Hudson Valley Dentist 4U the length of time that has passed. I cannot afford new X-rays and need to have wisdom teeth extracted. Dr. Leslie Cohen has not been helpful in this situation and has been rude on the phone. Her assistant has been polite and has confirmed again and again that I am at the top of the list."
"Thank you Dr Cohen for being the best dentist I have ever used. She gave me several dental implants that were painless to implant. Other dentists wanted me to use dentures because I suffer from bone loss but she knows how to regrow bone and now I have fabulous teeth and I can eat everything I want. Anyone that complains about Dr Cohen doesn’t appreciate a genius dentist. She should be working on Park Avenue/5th Avenue but chose to thankfully open up in Port Ewen, NY and is helping everyone no matter their finances. Even patients with Dental Insurance don’t realize how little their dental insurance companies are paying Dr Cohen as she saves their teeth. Good luck Dr Cohen."
