"Joe's Deli on Hertel Avenue truly embodies the soul of Buffalo’s dining scene with its warm, family-friendly atmosphere and a staff that makes you feel right at home from the moment you step through the door. Visiting this deli isn’t just about grabbing a bite to eat; it’s about experiencing the comforting embrace of a community hub that’s been delighting locals and visitors alike since its opening in August 2006. Standing proudly in the same location as the iconic Mastman’s Delicatessen, Joe's Deli has continued a legacy of culinary excellence. The deli takes pride in its daily offerings of homemade soups, which are a testament to the freshness and care put into their menu. These soups vary from classic recipes that soothe the soul to innovative concoctions that intrigue the palate, each one steaming with homemade goodness. However, it's the sandwiches that are the stars of the show. Whether you choose a classic or a specialty creation, every sandwich is a masterpiece of flavors and textures. The "Build Your Own Sandwich" option is a canvas for your cravings, with a variety of high-quality meats, cheeses, veggies, and condiments to choose from. And for those with specific dietary preferences, gluten-free bread is a considerate touch. The hot sandwiches are a particular delight, especially my personal favorite – Jimmy’s Cuban. The marinated pork loin and Sahlen’s ham come together with lorraine swiss and the perfect pickles, then finished with a tangy honey mustard on grilled ciabatta. It’s a fusion of taste that transports you to the vibrant streets of Havana with each bite. The specialty sandwich that nods to their first location, the Hertel / Colvin, also deserves a mention, showcasing the deli's deep connection to its roots. But let’s not forget the inventive "The Hangover" sandwich – a hearty and bold choice, or the new "The OCH," with its sweet and savory blend, truly a delight with its caramelized apples and melted Brie. Chips and a pickle neatly accompany each sandwich, though upgrading to the fresh cut French fries is always a tempting choice. For the full Joe’s Deli experience, you simply must try the Beef on Weck, a Buffalo staple, served here with the juiciest slow roasted beef and that essential kick of horseradish sauce. To conclude, Joe’s Deli isn’t just another stop on Hertel Avenue – it's a culinary cornerstone that has secured its place in the hearts of all who cherish good food and good company. Whether you’re a Buffalo native or just passing through, make sure you stop by Joe’s Deli. Trust me, after one visit, you’ll be planning your next."
"I had a Jimmy’s Cuban. Cubans aren’t something I usually like so no fault on them that I didn’t like it but the sandwich was better as I got to the second half. I liked the chips. Service is friendly and quick. The Oreo cheese cake I had was fantastic as well. I’ll definitely be back ordering something elce"
"The beef on weck sandwich had the juiciest meat and the fries were hot and crispy. The Greek pasta salad was so fresh. The Jimmy’s Cuban and Frank Stallone were both full of flavor and served with chips. I always get one of their giant cookies at every visit because they have such a unique taste and soft texture. Highly recommend!"
"Used to be one of my favorite sandwich shops but the past few times we’ve gone our order has been wrong or just disgusting. Ordered Sweet Baby James like I always do it has large chunks of onion, it had regular avocado instead of a fried avocado and was over seasoned. Only got barely a handful of the house chips in both meals. Too expensive for a skimpy meal."
