Reviews of Grace Covenant Baptist Academy
"We want to address the review that offered a 2-star rating of Grace Covenant Baptist Academy regarding the issue of television usage in the classroom. We regret we did not meet the expectations of this family. However, their review is not an accurate assessment of our weekday program. Television usage in the classroom IS LIMITED throughout the day. Televisions may be used throughout the day for educational programming, for materials that are related to the learning opportunities of the students. At other times, televisions may be used briefly during transitionary periods (i.e., teachers preparing lunch for students, preparing to go outside for playground play, preparing to go home for the day, etc.). These times are brief and limited. Television time is a very small part of a student's day at Grace Covenant Baptist Academy. Regarding outside play, students play outside each day, weather permitting. Students go outside a minimum of once per day (weather permitting) and sometimes twice in a day. We are grateful for the opportunity to have served this family, but want to clarify any misinformation that was given in the previous review. Parents considering enrollment at Grace Covenant Baptist Academy are welcome to visit and talk with the staff. Prospective parents are also invited to gain referrals from parents of students presently enrolled. We are extremely proud of our weekday program and do not want misinformation to be given."
"Our 3 year-old was enrolled at GCBA for around two months in early 2022. The good: The facility is very nice and clean. Teachers are all very nice. We had zero issues with the staff here. It’s very affordable! Probably the most affordable childcare in Knoxville, actually. Now for the bad, and the reasons we wound up switching centers so quickly: The kids in the 3/4 year old classroom watch LOTS of TV. When we initially toured the center, the director Allen assured us that they watch a limited amount of TV (mostly when the teacher prepares lunches, as treats, etc.) This was not the truth. When we picked our son up every day, he was watching TV 90% of the time. Occasionally the kids would be watching an exercise video, but usually they were watching a plain old kids’ TV show. The last straw for us came after spring break when, on our way to school, our toddler was excited because he was going to “get to watch a bunch of TV!” The school has a nice playground, but it is utilized very little. They had various reasons for not taking the kids outside (“it looked like it was going to rain,” or “it rained yesterday and the playground was flooded,” etc.) As a mom of an outside-loving little boy, this was our biggest disappointment. Also, they don’t seem to do many activities or art projects. When we gave our notice and explained our reasons for leaving, we were given a stack of worksheets and ONE art project that our son had done over the previous two months. Overall, this center was just not the right fit for our family. I wish they had been honest and upfront about the TV/outside time so we could have avoided the hassle of switching schools. From a developmental standpoint, I think kids need creative outlets, they need outside time, and they shouldn’t be plopped in front of the TV for hours at a time. I wish we had had a better experience."
"Grace Covenant Baptist Academy offers the best possible alternative to the public school system. Both of our children attend their Summer Flip-Flops program and our oldest is now graduating college at U.T.K. while our 2nd is just finishing up 3rd grade and made Honors, for the Year, in his 1st year(3rd grade) at Grace. Their smaller classrooms allow a more personal 1:1 assistance with the teachers, which is a huge plus considering a lot of times children get lost in larger public school classrooms. His growth in the classroom as well as spiritually would not have been paralleled otherwise. Grace was there when the public school systems were shutdown and what a blessing for our son and for us. If you're considering a private Christian School, then I can promise you you will not be disappointed with Grace. Our son will never attend the public school system again. Thank you HeadMaster Alan Smith and all of your wonderful staff for making this a special year for our son, and our family."
"We were searching for somewhere at the beginning of the start of the school year and was given this place. No kidding, the biggest blessing we could have hoped for. The staff and the care are unmatched and we will always have good memories of this place. The price is also unmatched but I would pay more for the level of care these people give."
"My son has attended here since Preschool. It is outstanding! The teachers have done a great job with him. He is showing great strides in his academic achievement and he is just getting ready to start 2nd grade. I would recommend you check it out if you are looking for a good, private Christian school."
