"I met up with a friend for a late lunch at Scatolina, and let me tell you: you need to go there. If you love good pizza, pasta, salad, wine, and a great dining vibe (and who doesn’t?), it’s a must! We went for lunch but it’s good for after work, dinner or date. It’s so inviting and comfortable, and I have to mention the great playlist as well. Oh my god. We enjoyed a lot of food and wine. First course: we started with the Insalata Rucola, which was so good that I seriously thought about ordering a second except for the fact that I knew there was lots more food on the way. Then for our middle course: we shared 2 pizzas — the sausage/broccoli rabe and the soppressata (which I wasn’t certain I wanted but tried it, and loved it!!). We could not get enough of anything we ordered. Finally we shared a chicken parmigiana that was tender and delicious. Of course we had 2 bottles of red wine to accompany our meal and they were fabulous. We didn’t get a chance to try the pasta that day, I mean really, how much can 2 people eat for lunch? But judging from everything we ate, I am sure it’s delicious. I can’t wait to go back for dinner and work my way through the menu."
"Visited Scatolina as a local last weekend with some friends, and I could not have been more impressed. The quality of the pizza was amazing, and they really fast service. Probably my new local spot for Italian cuisine"
"Great service. Got the prosciutto pie and pesto pasta. Everything was so yummy. So happy to have such a great place in this area, especially great pizza. We’ll definitely be back!"
"Came in for a girls night after receiving their mailer and I am so happy we did! Being so new, it was fairly empty but that only meant we got to chat with one of the owners who is lovely. We ordered the meatballs, prosciutto pizza, penne a la vodka, and lasagna. Everything was AMAZING, so delicious and filling. Topped it off with red wine and tiramisu to make it a perfect meal. I’m glad this restaurant is in this part of Astoria and can’t wait to come back!"
"Now that's what I'm talking about. Easily the best pizza in Astoria: best sauce, best price, best taste. More sauce than Milk flower (who don't use enough), less cheese than Gaudio's (who use too much), and just way better quality than Slice and similar. The sausage pizza was the opposite of greasy (see picture) which is a big deal as my wife has a grease-sensitive stomach. The mushrooms were plump and flavorful. Eat here and nowhere else (for pizza. They don't do sushi). Let's get these guys enough business to get a place near Steinway. Highly recommended. Glad to have a new pizza place worth my money --------------- Edit: the following was my initial review after a terrible delivery. I've added pictures of the free delivery I was compensated, hand delivered by Joseph himself. --------------- What happened? I pray this was the fault of the delivery driver - who needs to urgently be outfitted with means to transport pizza - and not the restaurant staff. I paid $42 for two margherita pizzas: one with soppressata, one with sausage, and BLACK olives on both. See the photos for what was delivered. We didn't even want to eat them. Nearly all of the toppings had slid to one corner of each box, suggesting our hot pizzas were transported on their sides. The sauce of the soppressata pizza was effectively missing, not to mention the basil. No, that's not cheese in the picture, but wet pizza crust sans toppings. The sausage fared better, but the pie was still squished and toppings were far from evenly distributed. The olive were not black but Kalamata. We hate Kalamata olives. I know most Astorians love them, but that was not what I ordered. It's fine to get them confused, but black olives are not Kalamata olives. Please correct the menu. One item was certainly the driver's fault: he left the pizza on the ground (didn't call me) so it got cold. By the time we'd reassembled anything resembling what we wanted to purchase, we had to heat up both pies in the oven. Then the taste... Basically, only the sausage had flavor. The soppressata just tasted of warm fat - maybe that's because of the grease that pooled in its corner during transit, but we weren't impressed. The sauce was very much in the background, but again, we were in short supply so it was hard to tell. The crust was solid, but I honestly don't know if there's a good pizza here or not because there were no memorable flavors. I'm curious if this establishment wants to do anything to make this right. I sincerely hope this is only an issue with the driver because this kind of delivery is totally unacceptable. We love to support our local restaurants and would love a better pizza spot in the neighborhood. Please do better."
