"I went in today to pick up an air filter for my John Deere, it has the Kohler 23hp. I was happy to see they had 1 air filter in stock from Kohler. I looked at the price, but it was $32.99. I double checked that they have a price matching policy, and sure enough it SHOULD cover this, as ACE Hardware ( among other places ) has the exact item listed. ACE was listing it at $22.95, though due to poor cell signal in the building, my phone wasn't picking up my location accurately. It gave me a Cortland store as the option. I tried to change it, the cell signal wasn't able to pull accurate locations. The manager came over and looked at it, saw the difference in price was $10 and was skeptical. He asked if I can pick it up at the ACE, and I pointed out that it wasn't giving me a local store because of the location services on my phone at the time. By the way, the Tractor Supply price match policy listed on the website does NOT state it has to be a local store to match the price. He told me it has to be a local store and I asked if he could look it up, and he said " Our system would show the same thing ". I repeated to him that it was a cell phone issue with location that was causing the problem with the ACE store it was assigning me. He said again, "Our system would pull up the same information". Obviously, this isn't accurate, because they would have been able to enter a zip code, or the IP address of their network would give at least an idea of the location. But that just showed me that he really wasn't interested in honoring the price match policy. I was about to explain one more time that it was solely a problem with the cell reception, and it wasn't that I was purposefully searching downstate locations. When he then says "Well, it's out of season, so no one would have it in stock". That actually irritated me a little, for a host of reasons. 1. HIS store had it in stock, albeit just one, did he honestly believe he was the only store in all of the area to have that air filter? 2. Was he implying that "IN-season" Tractor Supply has a closer price to everyone else's price? 3. Am I to understand that if something is limited in availability, Tractor Supply will RAISE their prices? ( Price Gouging ) Instead of responding with any of this, I simply declined to pay the $34. price, which by the way is by and far the highest price for this item I could even find ANYWHERE including what would be the John Deere version of this filter the GY20576 which is available in Canton at the Deere dealership for $11.97. Anyhow, I went outside and did another quick search because I now had service and figured I might go back in with a local store to show him, but the first thing it pulled up for the exact item was Home Depot, mind you it is in Massena but when I saw it was $18.52 AND free shipping, I asked myself why I would bother going back in to a store that clearly the manager doesn't care about customer service or the corporate policy. I ordered TWO air filter kits from Home Depot, they will be at my house Tuesday and the total including tax came out to $40. Pretty close to half the price that I would have paid for 1 in tractor supply after tax. Never mind the fact that it saves me the time, gas and effort of going out and picking it up at the store. Speaking of which, Tractor Supply would cost $47.62 to get ONE filter kit sent to me, where HD is sending two for $40. Honestly, I don't mind paying a little more to help out local businesses... which is why I generally shop at mom and pop hardware stores. But I happened to be in the area, but with this kind of service at Tractor Supply, I can't imagine any reason to ever go back to the Ogdensburg location again. If he had honored the price match, I never would have questioned just stopping in that store whenever I needed something, never mind the extra impulse buys I generally make, but this was just poor customer relations by the manager ( I believe Jim or John as I recall the cashier telling him on the radio that Matt was already helping someone )."
"More people need to shop here. Good prices and cool gift ideas"
"Friendly helpful staff. Greeted when I entered the store and staff member told me where the item was located. Another staff member in the isle guided me to the exact location of what I was looking for."
"The staff is what makes this store a great place to shop! I buy some things here like salt in winter and odds and ends for gifts. But their gardening implements and tools are all off brands and not the best quality. Their clothes are a little pricey as well, Although they have good sales regularly."
"Ogdensburg Tractor Supply is a nice business to make purchases for all types of agricultural needs whether for yard work or for the hobby farm. The employees at this Tractor Supply store are very helpful and kind."
