Reviews of Century Park Place
"My wife and I moved into our new apartment here on 1/26/2024 and I must say, the experience has been extremely disappointing. Subpar to say the very least. We have now had two unpleasant experiences with an associate by the name of Sydney. We are extremely appalled by her continuous unprofessional and condescending attitude towards us as new residents of this community. We’ve already communicated the concerns we have had with Sydney to the Property Manager, Cindy, about a month ago when we initially applied. The leasing process was very misleading as Sydney provided us with erroneous information and was not empathetic or accountable for her actions. There are several implications made that allude to applicants being made to feel that they are fraudulent. After being relentlessly questioned this way by a Caucasian female with a superior tone, it makes you as an African American family feel that we are not capable of having great credit, substantial income and not be a fraudulent applicant when applying for housing. If you look at the reviews regarding Century Park Place, you will see that we are not the only individuals that expressed concerns surrounding the application process. We met with the Property Manager in person and provided substantial feedback regarding the unfortunate experience however, there seems to be no change in Sydney's demeanor, attitude and how she treats my wife and I as new residents of this apartment community. On our move in day, we ran into another huge issue and the level of customer service we received from Sydney in resolving the matter once again made us feel very uncomfortable. She was very aggressive, dismissive, and patronizing. It feels very discriminatory as if we're not welcomed here. Because of federal fair housing laws, no one should be made to feel this way. At this point, I would like to be contacted by the Regional Manager, Todd Baines, to express our concerns. I've already sent an email and I'm awaiting a swift response. Moving into a new apartment should not be overshadowed by a negative experience of this caliber stemming from an associate who is responsible for providing exceptional customer service. The mistreatment of anyone when applying for housing must stop and I will not be silent until it's resolved. First Communities, this is your reputation on the line; let's do better!"
"I have been at Century Park Place for a little over 7 months now and I have absolutely enjoyed the experience thus far. From quick maintenance responses , clean apartment grounds , great amenities, and awesome customer service lead by Cindy Lopez my stay has my best living experience since moving to the RDU area. Cindy has such a positive attitude and is very professional. I have recommended this complex too many friends. No complaints, keep up the good work!"
"I have lived in this community for a year. I appreciate what the community has to offer. The staff is nice and helpful. Work orders are completed in a timely fashion. The landscape is always kept every Thursday. In addition they have valet trash which is convenient. Parking is also not an issue which is a plus."
"After residing at Century Park Place for five years, it's regrettable to say that the experience has been terrible. We're glad to be finally out. To start, one notable concern for families is the lack of a playground or any kid-friendly amenities within walking distance. This, coupled with poor walkability outside the complex, especially on the mostly unpaved Page Rd, makes it less than ideal for those with children. The most troubling aspect, however, is the management team. Their approach is often confrontational, dismissing any complaints and assuming you are immediately in the wrong without proper consideration. An incident that particularly stands out is their handling of a late rent payment two years into our stay. Despite our consistent payment history, they immediately resorted to eviction threats via email without any prior reminder or warning, which felt unnecessarily harsh and unprofessional. A severe safety concern arose in early 2021 when a downstairs neighbor discharged a firearm, with the bullet exiting the floor 10 inches from me while I was working at my desk (you can find the police report through Durham PD's online database). The bullet went through the laptop on my desk (see photo) and got lodged at the top of the window sill. Despite management's assurance to promptly address and repair the damage caused to the carpet and blinds, their follow-through was non-existent. This lack of action was startling, considering the gravity of the incident. It was not my job to beg them to fix the damage. Two years later, during lease renewal negotiations, I brought this fact up and they decided to feign ignorance and still ended up raising our rent by $41 per month (after a "discount"). The cherry on top was the lease termination process. You think you're finally free, but you're actually not! We adhered to all required procedures and paid all fees promptly. Yet, we were still blindsided by additional move-out charges for bathroom cabinet repainting, which were unwarranted given our careful maintenance of the apartment over five years. This felt like a clear & blatant display of greed. Upon protesting these fees, we were sent repeated emails threatening us with collections. I kid you not: it took multiple emails to get the move-out coordinator to even share a photo of the cabinets (which, again, were never touched by us and badly painted since move-in). And they made sure to mention "collections" in each and everyone one of the emails they sent us. Anyhow, don't let the overly excited leasing office employees fool you: I'd recommend staying far away from this place."
"The move out process was disorganized causing myself and other two roommates to feel very much taken advantage of by Century Park Place. The office misplaced our move out notice form, maintenance was a no show to our scheduled move out walk through, and we were charged for damages and missing items that we sincerely don't recall. My roommates and I wanted to know more about the damages before blindly paying them the amount requested and were automatically threatened with being sent to collections. I understand that apartment companies must deal with a lot of individuals that may not pay their rent on time and trash their properties, but my roommates and I are not those kinds of tenants. We always payed rent on time and thoroughly cleaned our apartment before moving out, which is why we felt so passionate about not causing these damages. Ultimately, we were forced to pay the fees because it was maintenance's word against ours. We were not allowed back onto the property to see the damages for ourselves and were again, threatened with collections, or the option to schedule payments. My roommates and I feel taken advantage of completely especially because maintenance were the ones that didn't show for the scheduled walkthrough were this situation could have potentially been avoided. When my roommates and I first applied for these apartments, their rating was 4+ stars. It's now at a 3.4. The fact that their rating decreased almost, if not a full star rating in the span of little over a year should cause anyone pause. Other common issues with the complex include: - Residents noticeably not picking up their dog's poop regardless of the many disposal receptacles & bags. Other than an occasional email and a yard sign, this was still an issue when we moved out. - The water is very hard and builds a light orange residue quickly. - There is a roly-poly issue in the Fall. They are everywhere and will infest ground floor apartments. We would sweep 50+ roly-polies daily during this time. Maintenance came and sprayed for them, which helped some, but I definitely see it being an issue each year."
