Reviews of Cottages at College Acres
"I am using a fake account to make sure I would not get problems after writing an honest review. 1) Expect a LOT of unexpected fees. You will only find out about them only once you you sign your lease. 2) Expect to pay $10 to $20 each month to park your car. There is no free parking for residents. 3) Expect to pay rent for the FULL 12 months rent, but you would be allowed to stay there just for 11 months and 15 days. 4) Expect to pay application fees twice for the child and parent 5) Expect to pay a $200 administration fee 6) Expect to pay portion of $250 (Duke energy deposit) 7) One person in the house would have to put their name as the primary payer for Duke Energy, so in the end, some roommates might skip on their final bill. 8) I would never chose to resident there if I would know in advance that I would have to pay so many fee's."
"It’s a convenient place to live because it’s close to campus and other things, but I’m giving 1 star because management and the leasing office is HORRIBLE. They are never open, never respond to emails or if they do respond it’s with an empty promise. I lived there for 2 years and for 2 years straight I asked for a barstool chair that was forgotten. I moved out and the chair was still missing. It took them 2 years to finally change my air filters. If you want a decent place to live that is close to campus this is good but don’t expect anything from the leasing office."
"This is a great value considering finding a place as an incoming student can be difficult. These apartments are brand new they've got smart home capability, noice TV in the living room, and it's fully furnished besides the mattress. Got your amenities: clubhouse, gym, and pool. Close by too so no need to walk too far. Internet's solid, it's been down a couple times through my lease but I haven't even noticed. And that's the main thing I'll say here is that who goes above and beyond are the staff here. They were incredibly busy the first semester they were open but they will still get your maintenance in and taken care of. Just recently I had an issue with my sink disposal and Jeff helped me out, going out of his way doing air filters. Didn't even have to file a report. Anytime I had an issue they've covered me, you can guarantee that. They care, been doing giveaways and offering free food as well. What matters most to me is having a well managed place and so if you're worried about where to stay this semester give them a try."
"Seems to be decent apartment complex for college kids, off campus. However, there are little to no visitor parking spaces for the entire apartment complex. We went to visit our son over the weekend. On Saturday night, we parked in a spot because there were no visitor spots available. We were there 45 minutes and our car was towed. Had to spend over $170 to get car back and Uber fees. The Uber driver mentioned that happens a lot there. To me, if you are going to have less than a handful of visitor parking spots that will without a doubt be taken on a Saturday night, you may not want to have a hair trigger on having cars towed."
"The location is ideal for an off-campus apartment, rent is agreeable, and the staff I have interacted with are amicable and seem to genuinely care about their jobs and helping you. The folks in the office are always smiling and polite and do what they can to help, and the maintenance crew is friendly and quick to arrive when you need them. There’s a surprising amount of space in the rooms, at least compared to on-campus housing, and there are some nice amenities like lofted bed frames, tv wall mounts in each room, and an included wall-mounted tv in the common room. Unfortunately, the entire complex inside and out is undeniably built to the lowest possible specifications. I moved into the phase 2 apartments when they were brand new and there were marks on almost all the walls and baseboards, the furniture looks and feels cheap and poorly built, and most of the furniture, cabinetry, and appliances have been assembled with the plastic cling wrap still on fixtures and fittings, like hinges and places where things are screwed together (see attached pictures). The toilets, despite being new, have some issues with the plunger mechanism and frequently let water continuously trickle unless you flick the handle to fix the seal in the back (all 3 of the toilets in my apartment exhibit this issue). The trend of cheap, poor quality furnishing and construction extends to the common areas like the clubhouse, too. At the time of writing this review I am entering the 5th month of my lease and I still do not have a functioning ethernet connection- the wifi is decent but intermittently has outages or issues. The appliances and utilities seem to be of a higher quality, though, and the granite countertops are nice. Parking is extremely limited, with only ~5 guest parking spots in the entire complex, all next to the leasing office. Overall, it’s a nice place to live as a student, but there are frequent headaches and it’s undeniably built as budget student housing and I do sincerely doubt that it’s built to last…"
