The John Blue House is a historical institution located at 13040 X Way Road in Laurinburg, North Carolina. It is part of the North Carolina Rural Heritage Center, which celebrates the rich history and culture of Scotland County and the surrounding areas. The center includes the Heritage Village, the Carolinas Indian Museum, and the Agriculture & History Museum.
The John Blue House is a rare example of Steamboat Gothic architecture and serves as the centerpiece of the NC Rural Heritage Center. Although the house is undergoing structural repairs, the grounds and museums are still open to the public. The Heritage Village, located in a grove of pecan trees, offers a glimpse of rural life in the late 1800s with homesteads, a barn, and a cotton gin.
The Agriculture & History Museum explores agricultural technology and rural life in the late 19th century, while the Carolinas Indian Museum showcases the heritage and culture of Indian tribes in the region. Admission to the museums and grounds is free, and visitors are encouraged to park in the Heritage Center Parking Lot.
