"Great shop! My toddler tried ice skating at a rink in Greenville, NC a couple of weeks ago. After a few runs on rental skates, we decided it was time to get the boy his own blades. I called ahead and spoke with Matt. I think he’s the owner. I asked about sizing and he assured me that the shop would have a small enough skate for my three year old. We decided to make the hour+ commute and boy was it worth it. Beyond the fact that there are no hockey stores closer to us, and the general sports stores don’t have toddler sizes; I also have no idea how ice skates should fit, so ordering online wasn’t ideal. When we arrived at the store we were greeted by another employee, Bryce. He began pulling out skates and helped my son try them on. He was great and talking to the kiddo about what felt best and gave his take on fit. We landed on a size 8. Two sizes bigger than I’d have guessed if I ordered online. When my son told them he wants to be a Mighty Duck, they offered some consultation on buying pee wee equipment once the boy is a stronger skater. Both Matt and Bryce play hockey themselves. We ended up with some elbow pads and a helmet too. My kid is pretty “soft” so we decided to get some gear to protect against the falls a beginner skater is most likely to endure. All in all we were really impressed by this small business. If you’re looking for hockey stores in the raleigh/research triangle area, you’re likely to stumble upon a corporate chain I won’t name here. I suggest you try Primo X Hockey first. Heck, they’ll even tell you to go to the big box hockey spot if there’s something they don’t have. Side note: skate rental at our local rink is $7. The skates we bought were $55, so we’ll have gotten our money’s worth in just 8 visits to the rink."
