Reviews of Cold Spring Basecamp
"We had a great time at Teela Springs and we have already booked a return visit when it will be warmer in April. We visited for 3 nights Thanksgiving weekend and although it was cold, we had an amazing time. The kids loved riding the bike trail and hope to someday be able to really fly through it. It was also fun climbing the large hill near the parking area and getting a fantastic view of the surrounding mountains. The hike to the waterfall was fun as well. We’re very excited to see what Hartwell and family have planned for the future at Cold Spring Base Camp!"
"We loved our stay at Teala Springs. The cabin had everything you needed. Loved the feeling of camping with the convenience and comfort of a bed and cooking utensils provided. We would definitely book this again!"
"We stayed at Teela Springs, the furthest out cabin/shelter. The shelter was surprisingly large with a nice propane stove and a pretty well equipped kitchen. It was chilly and rainy when we were there and unfortunately there was a fire ban, but we still had a great time. There is an outhouse a short walk away and solar lights that make the shelter functional and cozy at night."
"What a magical gem to discover within an hour of home! I love camping, but I don’t love the hassle of packing/setting up camp/breaking down camp/packing/unloading/cleaning/reorganizing/etc for next time….especially not for a short trip and especially not with the whole family in tow (am I right, mamas?) This place is perfect. It’s not really a cabin, more of a fancier lean-to. Three walls and a proper roof! It has a pull down shade wall (Bill’s cabin, anyway), camp mattresses on simple plywood bed frames, lanterns, a solar panel to power string lights and recharge batteries, a dedicated propane camp stove and propane, utensils, plates/bowls/cups, a coffee French press, a fire ring and chairs. Truly we brought clothes, toiletries, food, a pillow, a sleeping bag and games, the rest stayed home. I wouldn’t want to brave it when lows start being sub-freezing, but I want to find every excuse to go back April-Nov! We got a camping experience that wasn’t an overpriced cabin, which isn’t really camping anyway. And we didn’t have to schlep all the usual things that turn an otherwise pleasant weekend into another chore. This feels strange to say, but even the outhouse was cute (port a potty with a cedar shed built around it). My only real disappointment was the water situation. There is a bucket of non-potable water attached to a gravity filter. For 2 days it was barely enough. If we’d had more plate-needy food we would not have had enough water to wash and drink and we were only 3 people for 2 nights. Bill’s Cabin is supposedly set up for 7 people. It was already not quite sufficient so I can’t imagine trying to accommodate 7 on that amount of water."
"All-in-one treat! We had a great fall weekend celebrating our anniversary at Cold Springs Basecamp. Being only 30 minutes from Asheville, it was PERFECT! Semi-rustic camping with perks like hiking and biking trails on-site meant that we could plant ourselves there and just relax and enjoy the nature. We didn't have time to plan out a full tent camping weekend, so this was a perfect pivot and turned out more enjoyable! The solar panel powered string lights were such a cool added touch, along with the cooking basics and gas stove that were provided. We stayed in Teela Springs cabin and had a lovely time listening to deers blowing, turkeys calling, hiking, enjoying the mountain bike trails, and relaxing in nature. The private "outhouse" was so clean and definitely appreciated! Do NOT miss this gem of an experience! Thanks, Cold Springs Basecamp for a memorable weekend!"
