Reviews of Kiba Studios Clifton Park
"I would like to thank the Kiba staff in Clifton Park for their knowledge, communication and expertise in designing, installing and bringing our Dream Kitchen and Master Bathroom to the finish line. Every detail was thought of as we worked alongside Jane, Tim and Cody for serval months so that we could first see the dream on paper. I have a very hard time visualizing the finished look. The presentation of powerpoints that the Kiba team created to show us the dream come to life on paper was in itself a very valuable tool for me to make all my decisions. Tim and Cody were my designers for both projects and I thank you for your expert design skills!!! Jane was my project manager who worked diligently with the Kiba installer Mark to make sure no detail of my project was missed and the results are breathtaking. I would recommend the Kiba team to do a project for family, friends or anyone I know looking for a great team of people that care about their customer and the home that they (we) LOVE! We are grateful that we just happen to stop by and check out their store in Clifton Park - we found our "DREAM TEAM"!!! Dan and I will stop in to say Hello, pleasure working with you all! Cody enjoy Texas, we are headed there for couple months this winter."
"No matter where you go to renovate a room in your home, there are always some sort of issues; a given with any project. How issues are addressed is what makes a company great and gain repeat customers. I recently had a renovation project with Home Depot where everything went perfectly except for the counter tops. Before all was said and done, parts of the counter had to be remade 3 times. And while this was frustrating and disappointing, Home Depot was there to address every aspect of getting the problem corrected and even went a step above and compensated me for the time I had to take off work. My parents recently had a renovation started by Kiba Studios that ended in a complete mess after Kiba Studios walked away in the middle of the contracted work. The cabinets that were purchased lacked the quality that was advertised and the kitchen design was full of basic errors that you would not expect from a place that claims to be a kitchen designer. I had to deal with employees of this business a couple different times, on behalf of my family, and the customer service following a sale could not rate any lower. They require payment in full upfront, even for contracted work not completed; once they have your money, they no longer see any need for customer service. Plus, in the middle of contracted work, they demanded additional money; refusing to continue unless it was paid. There has been no compensation for the design errors made and no responsibility/assistance taken/given for the problems with products purchased from them. Take my advice and go to Home Depot."
"Jane and her team were wonderful. My son had recently suffered a devestating accident and I needed to put in a handicapped bathroom in my home. It was truly an undertaking. She, Mark and Travis worked with me both financially and strategically to get something to work for our needs. They were professional, courteous and responsive. Mark and Travis did amazing work given the circumstances since my house is older and needed some TLC to get this project done. Highly recommend this company."
"Jane Clow from Kiba Studios designed my kitchen, bath, laundry renovation. There were huge problems with the quality of the MasterBrands cabinetry I was sold. Not only did Kiba Studios supply product information that was false, but they did not stand behind the product they sold; in fact they "halted any communication" with me until I sorted out the issues with MasterBrands myself; breach of contract. When MasterBrands sent representatives to review the issues with the cabinetry, both Ms. Clow and Chris Taylor (owner) were supposed to be present; however, last minute they both cancelled telling me to sort it out myself with MasterBrands. When you are spending this kind of money with a company your expectation is that they remain part of the process throughout. Not once did an owner from Kiba Studios come to review the issues. On top of cabinetry issues there were numerous design errors. The most costly being that you could not open the drawers in the refrigerator because the door hit the wall and would not open far enough to allow drawer access. I was told by Ms. Clow that it was only her job to make sure the refrigerator fit in the opening; not her job to make sure the drawers opened. Kiba also designed a custom hood for over my stove and sold me the vent/liner that was to be installed. The fan and liner I was sold did not fit into the hood that was designed. At my expense I had to modify the hood and buy a new fan. Kiba agreed to refund me for the fan/liner, but after I got it to the store for a return, they refused to refund me unless I signed change orders and agreed to pay the contractor for their mistakes. My mini frig did not fit in the opening under the counter that was allowed despite the fact that I was required to provide all specs on my appliances prior to final design approval. When Ms. Clow designed the bathroom there was no allowance left for the cabinet drawers and when you opened the drawer it hit the door molding and would not open all the way. After MasterBrands agreed to send replacement parts, Kiba refused to give the contractor permission to move forward and refused to pay him unless I paid my balance in full. My complaint to doing this was that I had purchased assembled cabinets from Kiba and once they had installed all the parts so that I could view them as whole cabinets, I was not paying anymore money. Ms. Clow's response to this was that I did not buy cabinets, I purchased wood from MasterBrands that the contractor was to assemble; despite the fact that my contract said cabinetry and installation - not wood and assembly. Kiba held the money for my counter top and refused to refund me or give it to the fabricator despite being asked several times and despite the fact that the contract clearly stated it was refundable prior to templating. I had to hire an attorney to point this out. If you read the review left by Chris W and the response from the owner, they state that they attempted to reach out over the past year and were unsuccessful; this is laughable. What this owner is essentially saying is that despite the fact that they have all contact information via phone, text, and email and that Ms. Clow has been to my home multiple times that they were unable to contact me. This comment does nothing but substantiate what I am saying. The owner then goes on to say that they have met all obligations despite the fact that they refused to communicate with a customer they had under contract. They were obligated to refund me the money for the fan and liner because they ordered one that did not fit in the hood they designed. I have received no refund for this. They have paid for none of the additional expenses involved in correcting their design errors and they have not refunded the money owed after they breached the contract and did not finish the work. So to say they have met all obligations is also laughable. I would not recommend Kiba Studios to anyone as they do not own their mistakes and they do not stand behind the products they sell."
"In October of 2019 my family signed a contract with Kiba Studios for a home improvement project (cumulative value of $61,204), which included kitchen, bath, and laundry renovation as well as custom cabinetry installation. The project finished in May 2023. The project took nearly 3.5 years for a number of reasons, but many of the delays are directly attributable to a defective Kiba Studios design and Kiba Studio’s contracted cabinet installer walking off the job. The major issues included: • Kiba Studios designed an opening for a refrigerator that would not permit the refrigerator door to open • Kiba Studios designed an under-island beverage refrigerator opening that was too small to fit the beverage refrigerator • Kiba Studios designed a bathroom cabinet without enough clearance for the drawers to open • Kiba Studios designed a vent fan that did not fit into the vent hood • Kiba Studios incorrectly ordered a custom Rev-A-Shelf cabinet Small design omissions are inevitable on large complex projects, but the quantity, severity, and obviousness of Kiba’s design flaws could only be the result of incompetence, negligence, mismanagement or some combination thereof. Many of the issues were so severe that they required ordering additional cabinets or moving plumbing in the house to accommodate the mistakes. When these issues were brough to the attention of Kiba Studios it refused to remedy the issues and eventually ended communication prior to fulfilling the contract. The extent of the problem was compounded when Kiba’s contracted installer walked off the job. The cost to correct Kiba’s design flaws was in excess of $10,000. Kiba has in no part compensated me for the negligence nor offered to remedy the problems. Kiba’s willingness to create defective designs and then avoid contractual obligations, particularly with a senior citizen, is nothing short of predatory. I have filed formal complaints with the Better Business Bureau, the New York State's Attorney General, and the New York Consumer Protection Division against Kiba Studios for failing to deliver the goods/services contracted as well as failing to honor the homeowner protections afforded by New York General Business Law Sec. 771. I would strongly caution any prospective customer to avoid Kiba Studios. If you already have a project underway with Kiba Studios, I strongly encourage the homeowner to get the designs reviewed by a second source and refuse to pay Kiba more than 25% of the cost upfront."
