Reviews of Opossum Creek Falls
"Approximately a 5 mile round trip hike. Easy in with steady descent and a slight grade climb back out. Absolutely worth every minute!"
"Excellent hike and falls. The trail is pretty well maintained with only a few recent blown over trees. Great views of the Chattooga River before you cut back to the falls itself. There is no path to the upper falls and requires some bush whacking and scrambling. FYI the cliffs are very steep with several downed trees on the left side."
"It's a 5mi hike round trip. Easy going down to the Falls & a good steady climb coming out with some flats spot to catch your breath. Hang a left once you get down to the River. Should see another sign pointing to Opossum Creek Falls."
"My family is not one of hikers, but as an Eagle Scout, I can appreciate a good trail. That’s exactly what this is. It’s about 2.5 miles from the parking area to the waterfall, but the walk is more than worth it. My family of 4 got many good photos, and we all said that the 5 mile hike (in the rain!) was more than worth it. The trail is about an 850 foot elevation change (or so I’m told) so expect a bit of work in your hiking but, like I said, my family is not a hiking family and we enjoyed the trip. About 2 miles in, there’s a camping area with some flat spots for tents, a fire ring, and a small sandy beach on the Chattooga River. The views at the waterfall (0.3 miles after the camp site, according to a trail marker) are fantastic. I’ve attached some of my pictures, but they cannot do it justice."
"Went and hiked here this past weekend. The trail was BEAUTIFUL! The last of the fall colors were still around as you can see in the image and video I uploaded. I hiked from the parking lot all the way to the waterfall which was 4 miles round trip. The hike from the parking lot to the waterfall is an elevation drop of 816 ft. Keep in mind you have to hike all that back up... Nonetheless, it is totally worth it! There are several spots that you can camp at when you get down to the river which is 1.5 miles into the trail! I will definitely be coming back to camp out! There are fire rings and quite a bit of flat spots to pitch tents"
