Reviews of Byron Reece Trailhead Parking
"Great place to park for the Blood Mountain trail! It was not busy at all when we went, probably only 3 or 4 cars in the lot but it is usually much busier than that. The hike up is absolutely gorgeous. We stopped at the Blood Mountain shelter and there and back took us about 3.2 hours. Would recommend this hike for anyone in the area!"
"Well marked, trailhead for Blood Mountain and part of the AT. We did Blood Mountain and the Freeman Loop. It was beautiful, especially with the leaves changing. The summit of blood mountain is moderate. The freeman loop isn’t too strenuous but is fairly rocky in parts."
"Easy in and out with many parking spaces. Trail is traveled by many and is marked. Fun hiking this part of the Appalachian Trail."
"Has a good bit of parking. I really liked that it was off the road to not be visible to the cars and have some protection behind the trees. Great hike up but not for the faint of heart. Took me and my boyfriend 1.5 hours to the top of Blood and about half that going down. And I think we're in better than average shape."
"The hike from here up to Blood Mountain is one of my favorites. Parking here is limited and will fill up by mid morning depending on the day and time of year. We hiked on a Friday in early November and arrived around 8:30am with no issue. The trail up is a bit strenuous at points, mainly because of rock steps. Strongly recommend hiking in the fall for the colors and cool weather. One thing we noticed is that after getting on to the Appalachian Trail portion of the hike, there were some markers that were either missing or easy to miss in spots. It was only an issue for us in one particular spot where we weren’t sure where to turn. We met others on the trail that noticed the same issue. It’s a little easier to lose the trail in the fall with all the leaves on the ground as well, but not a serious concern. Awesome views at the overlook and a cool stone shelter as well. Make sure to sign your names in the book at the shelter."
