"Pretty easy hike for the payoff of the incredible views. 10 minutes in and you already start getting wonderful views. If you climb all the way up you get 360 degree views. It was a wonderful experience and an easy hike. Great for a quick hike if you don't linger too long taking photos. We hiked this after the graveyard fields loop and it was the perfect amount of hiking for the day."
"Comfortable hike with a some rocky elevation toward the end. This is broken up by a short meadow where you can catch your breath before finishing the last elevated area. Trail is worn well with a combination of small stones initially, followed by dirt-root terrain and then various size rocks that provide steps amongst the trail. Be sure to wear shoes that work well with this mixed terrain. Also, pending the time of year and time of day, you'll want to bring a cool weather jacket or layer up as the temperature is cooler along with a breeze at the top. We hoped to catch the sunset and full moon but unfortunately the clouds came in about 15 before we had a chance to see it. Fortunately we were able to get some good viewing in before the clouds. Despite several hikers on the trail and a few photo shoots going on along the way, it did not feel crowded; there was plenty of room for everyone. Parking can be challenge. Definitely a trail worth doing along with the reward of spectacular views."
"Favorite mountain I’ve ever been to! Had our engagement photos done here. We’ve been visiting here for years, since before it got crowded. Lots of people on the trail now but it’s still beautiful and you can easily find a spot for yourself to enjoy a little picnic & views!"
"Black balsam knob is such an amazing beautiful stop along the blue ridge parkway. The 360 views are to die for. You start off walking through a serene pine forest and emerge into rolling bald hills with views as far as the eye can see. This is one on my favorite stops on the blue ridge parkway. The hike is moderate with average elevation gain and only a couple miles of distance depending on how far you want to go."
"It's not too difficult for us old ladies. It is rocky so wear good hiking shoes or boots. The views are incredible. The fall leaves were at peek for the drive up. Most of the trail is above the tree line. It's very dog friendly. Good place for picnics."
