Swinging Bridge on the Toccoa River

"It's a long, windy road to get to the parking area before the short hike to the bridge. While a 4 wheel drive vehicle would make you feel more comfortable, a regular vehicle can make the trek provided the conditions are not wet, muddy, snowy etc. We made it in a 2011 Chrysler Town and Country Van. Take your time and forge ahead. It's a short hike to the bridge once you park your car. I would recommend a trekking pole to hike down over some of the big roots, but it's not necessary. Explore both sides of the bridge and take it all in."

"We had so much fun hiking. Driving there is a little off-roady, you could get there in a sedan but the ride is going to be rough, so SUV and trucks recommended. The bridge swings, if you are scared of heights and get motion sickness I could see crossing the bridge being a regret on your part. Once you get to the other side, the views are amazing."

"A not so quick 15 minute 3 mile gravel road takes you to this great hike. (Tip, when leaving Google maps will have you go 11 miles and 19 minutes right to do a U-turn. Just turn left if you turned right to enter and ignore the detour.). The hike to the bride is quite quick and our 2 year old was able to walk it holding hands. There is a trailhead with parking off to the side. The bride offers a very scenic view of the toccoa river. You can also walk the banks on either side for more fun. If you continue along the trail walks along the Benton MacKay trail. The main trail was dirt and pretty well smoothed, but there's were rocks and roots and it wasn't an issue to walk 2 or 3 abreast. Past the bridge the trail was more rugged, gaining altitude, but still well blazed and in good shape. We wish we had more time to hike further as it looked like quite a great hike. Views from the bridge were the highlight."

"The 3 mile drive in is rough. I would not attempt it in a low car. Definitely need an SUV or truck and even then it is not a smooth drive. It is a short hike to the bridge and beautiful to see."

"Short, beautiful trail to the Swinging Bridge. Going in is easy, coming out has a moderate climb. Lots of roots on trail, so watch your step. The Bridge & river are gorgeous. We did an out & back hike, but it looks like you can extend the hike past the bridge. We had a long drive ahead of us & kept the hike short. Would definitely like to explore more of the trail!"
